I might have power checked, to see if he would re-raise it or just call, but have no problem with the laydown.

    I think the question is,

What are you trying to achieve with this hand?

Are you trying to steal the blinds?

    Are you looking for trips?

Are you looking to build a decent pot one way or another?

I don't think you are trying to steal as it's not worth it.

If you are looking for trips then why raise it?

If you are looking to build a pot then what flop are you hoping for because if you get action post flop with 99 after a preflop raise then it's usually because you are behind.

Which leaves a continuation bet as your strategy for taking it down postflop and you didn't do that.

I'd say you wasted 150 chips and damaged your table image without real purpose.

Personally, I'd either fold that preflop or limp at this stage of a SnG, later on I'd raise it big (sometimes allin) looking to steal once the blinds are worth it but happy to take on a single caller.

minimum raise to discourage a better hand from making a higher bet that may be harder to call. Usually because you're on a draw and want to see the next card cheap and don't want the button to throw in a 1/2 pot or larger bet on a steal.

I came up with the phrase with Marm in another thread on minimum raises - I coined it power-check while Marm prefered Power-Chek and used in his title line for a while.

    Mr. McJ:
Power checking or whatever isn't a real term outside of a few people who don't really know what they're doing.

    Rog:
Preflop is a bit big. I'd probably raise to 100, but this is fine. You should fire the flop too. We don't have a reason not to yet.
