I just started Poker a week ago....i went to a poker game wit 5 people and paid 5 bucks to go in.....
With no knowledge of the game, except what a pair and 3 of kind and 2 pairs were...I sitll didtn kno what card ranking was, and didnt kno what bet, raise or call was...
Well some how i won 60 bucks in the tourney, and everyone said it was luck, which i believe, because i had like 4 strights in a row.....lol
Anywayz we played more, and i made second place, than i didnt win shit at all, and won twice yesterday, wit money totalling 50 bucks....
And all my friends said i have no skill, that im just pure luck and have no idea what my hand is, and i bet and call wit no knowlege of the percent of my hand....
ANd its true, but i been trying to get good at poker, and the stratagies i read make poker so simple, but i dont get the fuss about hand percent and when to call and when to bet....
Ive been looking for stratagies all over the place and i havnt learn anything but card ranking, what call, bet and fold is and stuff...
If you guys have the time, i would like to learn more about Texas Hold Em poker...
stratagie sites and vids are much appreciated.....advices too please
im only 17 years old so yea.....this noob need poker Knowledge

Your friends are morons, if they were poker players through and through they would be telling you how awesome you are, and playing cash games with you.
Luckily you have real friends :-]A good education is expensive but ignorance costs more.

But seriously. Read around on this site and articles on the internet. Just study everything you read. You still have a lot to learn, and if you wanna go pro, it'll take a lot of time and dedication.
So just look around and read. But you have to really understand what you read, or it's pointless.Last edited by FelixTheCat; 03-11-2006 at 12:39 PM.

If you dont feel like paying for a book, this site - http://www.pokertips.org/ - has a good set of articles aimed at teaching basic strategy for begginers.

let me assure you you will never go pro.
many people on this forum wanna be pros. imo out of all 500 good players we have, only 5-10 would be able to do it.
if you wanna play in the series which is like $1,000 a pop for big events, youll need alot of $.
gl.I get more ass than a toilet seat. All shapes/colors/sizes.

We don't have 500 good players here on PFO.
Also, I disagree.
I think many people on here could go pro.
It's not that they lack the ability, it's that they lack the ambition or the know how. I would love to go pro, but I'm a long ways away from that, and I'm hardly ready.
plenty of time thoughLast edited by PowerfulRog; 03-11-2006 at 05:34 PM.

Depends how you define "pro". If you define a pro as someone who makes their entire or the bulk of their income from playing Poker, then I think it is achievable to many people, simply by multi tabling low level cash games online whilst bonus whoring.
Even if you play break even poker on 4+ $100NL cash tables with bonus/RB you make at least minimum wage.
However if you want to go and enter the WSOP events, then you have next to no chance.
