    Default Right to push?

Can you please give me your opinions on how I played the following hand? The table was very loose and most of the players were very aggressive. The average pot was around $10. The villain in this hand had just joined the table. I was more bothered about the guy on the button - he seemed to be stealing a lot of pots.

    [Mar 11 11:04:04] : Hand is over.

After the flop it was always my intention to check-raise due to the aggressive nature of the game - was this a mistake with there being 2 diamonds on the board? I was very confident that the button was going to bet. Was I right to push?

Littel over zealous with the raise I might say. Others probably won't put it as kindly. They key to NL poker betting (and I'm not much one to talk so) is to bet enough to offer them the wrong odds to draw to a hand that beats yours, but small enough you expect a call.

If you truly thought they would call that push, then you bet correctly. Usually the only hands that call you there are the very strong draws (incorrectly) and the 'nut' hands (sets, Top two pair, TPTK). But since this guy s was a bully and the other guy was new, most bullies back off a bit when facing resistance. The best sized bet probably would have been about $5, higher chance of being called while still not giving odds.
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

Luck is a Residue of Design.

same. you want to raise a reasonable ammount, but you want to raise enough so the pot odds you are giving out make calling a mistake for the villian, and you want to have enough chips to protect your hand on the turn. if he calls the flop raise and you still think hes weak, then you push, be because its still a pot sized bet.

    Thanks for the responses.

I felt that I was being a bit hasty in pushing. I've been having a bad run of cards lately and it's affecting my play (tilt). I knew I had to protect my hand, but made a big overbet to compensate for the times people were incorrectly calling my pot sized bets and hitting their draws etc.

The button had usually been making overbets when stealing and I think I had made up my mind to push if he made any similar bet - out of frustration more than anything else. This time he made a smaller bet but I still pushed??????

Thankfully this 'extended tilt' hasn't badly affected my bankroll (about 3%) , but I've decided to have a week off to chill out a bit.
