Introduction
Hello. I've been lurking on this site for a couple months and recently started posting a bit and pitching in my 2 cents here and there. I figured that if I was going to lend my advice I should give a little background on myself.
I have been playing HE for a couple years now. I have read a handful of the popular books and poker columns, I watch a lot of the poker on TV, and I consider myself a pretty good student of the game.
I play NLHE almost exclusively, primarily SnGs and MTTs. I only play with fake money, except for the $15 home game I make it to about once every 2 months.
I believe I could be successful with real money, but I haven't taken that plunge for the following reasons. I have a wife, a career and a newborn son. All three have serious priority over poker. Also, I am not a gambler. I rarely ever gamble. I only have a few hours a week to play and often I need to leave the poker table to care for my son, spend time with my wife or take care of other responsibilities. So, I think any edge for making money would deteriorate as I have a limited window of playing time and need to be able to walk away from the game at any point. That's too much of an edge to give up to be profitable. I enjoy poker as a sport/hobby and I play for the joy of the game and the competition. But I play to win, so I try to play solid. When and if I start to play with real money, I want to be able to give it the serious attention it takes to be profitiable.
Anyway... this is a great forum and I continue to learn alot and look forward to further discussions.
