Default Don't Drink and Play Cards

These are my statistics over christmas period:

Dec 24th sober +$150

Dec 25th and 26th drunk. -$250

Dec 27th AM +$100
PM (after beer) - $300

Dec 28th AM + $500
(After beer) PM -$400

This morning +$200

Another factor is probably as I'm in England my AM corresponds to your PM. I must be taking money of the drunk Americans and then returning it to them later when I am drunk. At least this is improving Transatlantic relations. My new years resolution funnily enough is to not play poker when drunk.

I have first hand experience of this myself, on more than a few occaisions.

Friday before last i logged on after several hours in the pub (i wasn't planning on playing that night, but my plans were ruined after her husband showed up) managed to lose about $150 in 45 minutes...including 3 or 4 bottom 20 finishes in $10 MTTs...

patience and discipline are needed to win at poker, attributes rarely assisted by being pissed

a few beers (2 or 3 pints) often improves my game (probably lowers my boredom threshold), but much more and i start to play really loose and aggressive

I've had some success while impaired. However, I really try to play certain games only. I never play cash games, especially NL. I do the 5 and 10 SnGs and play loose/maniac for fun against weaker players for the most part.

And if I have enough sense about me (i.e. partially impaired), I'll try to cultivate a table image and then suddenly start playing opposite of that. I'll also try all the tools available like checkraise bluff, overbetting, etc.

It would be nice though if I could remember what worked and what didn't.

I have only played freerolls while I am drinking and I seem to always hit the money when I do. The added advantage in forum games is that I play totally different then when I am sober so the others that usually know my play are hit in the head with an unexpected move. It is a good way to mix up your play and have fun doing it.

Playing $1/$2 blinds NL hold'em.

That is a small sample size it is true. However my % flops seens also increases from about 20% to around 30% when I have been drinking.

Unfortunatelty Beav I do not intend to increase the sample size so you have to take my word for it!
