Default Stars 20% Payouts.

Any stars players, have you played tournaments with a 20% payout schedule?

I made the money in one last night, I am not sure what I think about them

I played a buck tourney that hand over 1800 people, 364 places payed.

I finished 65th and got about 10% less from than I would have from the standard payout structure.

I played a $1 one last night, but I've only been on Stars 2 days. I think its easier to get past the bubble. If you can do that with an average or better stack it gives you more time to push and build up for the late rounds. I crapped at 161 and got a whopping $1.85 for my troubles, but at least I got paid. I lost 2/3 of my stack on AK even stacked with villian. I put him all in and he held J3s diamonds and he it a pair of 3's on the turn. I went AI on the flop which was rags. I then had pp8's for the remaining 1/3 and lost to AK hitting a K on the river. Go figure. Since I'm not a tourney stud I like the fact the bubble comes earlier. Perhaps when I get diesel I'll feel differently.

Beav, whats your sn on Stars? PM if you don't want to broadcast or tell me to eff off in a reply. I'm TheRealDeCoy there too.

Yes I've played em Beavis, and I don't think I like the 20% thing....

I won one couple of weeks back (first MTT win never get tired of tellin ppl - there's a thread in the glory corner!!)....it was a $5 with 751 entrants. The prize pool was $3755 - I got $796 for my efforts.

I haven't bothered to do the maths, or compare it to more standard structures on other sites, but I just feel winning should have been worth more than $796 out of $3.7k. Especially as I had to beat 750 other ppl and it took 5hr 42mins...

As far as I can see, the only players this structure benefits are the weak ones that just scrape into the money, because it pays more places than usual.

it would have been $938 under the normal structure, 25% of the pool vs 21% for the 20% payout. Actually not that bad.

It made for strange playing though, because the payout increases were so gradual once you get in the money that "survival" aint worth much.

I went out with AJ called by a SS with 55 and a big stack with AT, the flop was T high and the river was a 5.

I am quite neutral to them, I think that for regular MTT players it would certainly result in lower varience, since it is very easy to make the money. But then you really don't see much significant return on your investment until you make the final table. The difference between 300th and 30th is usually less than 1 full buy in.

There must be some more effective strategies for playing these to optimize your returns, I find I take alot of risks even with a medium large stack after making the money, trying to get a monster stack.

Ah well it's not as bad as I thought...

It is easier to make the money, and it can be nice if you manage to scrape into the money when you've played shit or had shit cards - I've done that quite a few times! And you get better money than usual for finishing in the top 10% or so...which is still a good achievement in a large field so it's only fair I guess.

But if you win you can't help wish it was 25%!

Wish it was a 15%, its nice to make the money fairly easy, but then you relaize you MUST make the final to make a decent profit, you're basically jsut breaking even 10th place or higher.
