Smile Brand Newbie: Loving the site

I hate lurking and I just had to say hello. In the last month or so I decided to actually focus on my poker game and learn the technical side of the game that I have been winging. I have read some of the books I have seen discussed here, but not all of em. I downloaded the PokerTracker free version but was too cheap to buy it. After doing some reading here I will go spend the loot. Do they take NetTeller? lol.

I know I'm big fish here. I win at my home games almost always, but if I'm fish they are chum. I have been slowly pissing money at PartyPoker for 2 years. Maybe a total of $300.

In the last month that I have been taking the game seriously I made a $100 deposit at PP and been playing the 0.5/1 LH ring games and am up about $70. I've probably logged 35 hours and what I read in books is that I should expect to win 1BB/hour. Reading here I see 4BB/100. Is this the same? Are my goals too low?

Anyway, I hope I made a nice introduction for myself and look foward to getting to know you guys.

I like the fact that this seems to be a smaller community with friendly people. I also like the fact that it happens to be one of the few sites not blocked at work. Thanks for letting me register.

Regards,

The Real DeCoy

here is something about winrates

when people say you should be winning 1bb/100, that is meant for higher games, not microlimits. When you are playing at .5/1, you should aim for a 2bb/100 winrate. this is a good winrate if that is the limit you are playing. if you are above 2bb/100, you should move up provided you have the money to do so. then, if you are beating 1/2 for 2bb/100, move to 2/4. once you reach these higher levels, your winrate at .5/1 will probably reach 3 or 4bb/100, some have recorded winrates as high as 5bb/100 over longterms at .5/1. i personally wouldn't want a winrate of 5bb/100 because that means you are playing at too small of a limit.

i hope you guys get what im saying it might not be too clear

One book I read said that I should have at least $500 in my bankroll before considering moving up a level. I would say I'm confident at 0.5/1 and would not be scared to play 1/2. What is the lowest BR amount you would recommend I have before moving up one?

Also, what do you need to play $25 NL? Is that 20x rule I read here applicable to this game? So $500 again?

Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to learning a ton. I realized its very silly for me to piss away money at poker that I work my ass off for at work when its really as simple as studying and learning to not lose and then win.

.50/1$ LimiT = 300$
1/2$ LimiT = 600$
25$ NL 20-40 buy-ins $500-$1000

If your Objective is to just have a good time then a lower bankroll would be fine, if your goal is 2 make some money you should play with the proper bankroll to be able to hands swings.
