Frustrating SnG problem
Hello, been looking at the board for a while, just registered.
I'm here to post about a problem I've been having for a long time.
I play lots of SnG games, sometimes 10 people, sometimes 5 (pokerroom).
The problem is this - I always get to final 2 or 3..
But I just can't finish 1st.
The blinds get bigger, and I do not play any connectors or suited cards - I only play pockets and high cards such as AK, KQ, KJ, QJ etc..
Is there any problem with this method?
Because, that's the way I play and it always does not work when there's a showdown.
I always finish second, and the prize is weak compared to all the work done..
and it really frustrates me.
Just looking for any advice on high blind heads-up.
Thanks

Raise, raise and then raise a bit more

When the blinds are big, you can't wait for a big hand. Be the one raising.

the above information is very good. However, heads up play is also about luck. I've lost 10 straight heads up matches before and I've won 10 straight, the problem could be just one of natural variance.

HU is a totally different game, especially with high blinds. I was pretty horrible at HU until I went and played nothing but HU matches on stars for about a month. I'd say get some cheap HU only practice in and get used to betting with nothing and calling down bets with 3rd pair.
Jason's post is very good

calling and raising are two vary different things. calling evry hand is dumb HU in a cash game.

forget about HU. get your chips when you are 4 handed on the bubble so you will have a big lead going into hu. you need to play super agro when theres 4 left. open raise/push almost every pot and just keep applying the pressure and you will have no problem hu because of the big advantage. there isnt too much edge playing hu at the end of a s/g with the blinds so high

I hate heads up aswell but I don't get that far in most tourneys I play so no worries Headsup is my weakest game but I actually win about 75 percent of the 5 buck heads up I play on pokerstars (and I only play these when im on tilt from losing a big tourney).
