Thanks for the info, guess I have been lucky never to lose more than 60BB so far unless I'm screwing around. So why is making $200/day playing (2) 5/10 a problem? It was an example but I'm guessing your saying it's a problem since one should make more?

okay lets get this fact straight... 300BB is the general amount that you SHOULD have to never go broke. this also varies from game to game. I'm sure many people can play .5/1 winning 5bb/100 with such low variance that they should never reach a losing streak of more than 150BB or so. then there are the higher games where you are only a 1bb/100 winner where it is possible to have 500BB losing streaks.

now, lets say you are making $200/day at 5/10 limit, which is 2bb/100 for 1000 hands, k? you are "making $200/day" over time, but it's not like every day you are up $200 at the end. One day you could lose 100BB or $1000. The next day you could win 60BB then the next day win 60BB then the next day win 40BB then lose 50BB then win 70BB and still come out to $200/day. The $200/day is taking into account for the 100 and 200BB downswings that you have - so if you are a proven 2bb/100 winner at 5/10, don't worry about any 100bb downswings, it will even out over the "longrun"

by the way, the recommended bankroll for shorthanded play is 500BB because there is a lot more variance involved in that. Some days when I play I might start out down 100BB and finish up on the day or start out winning 100BB and finish down on the day.

bboy,

Thanks for the explaination, see, we can all get along here. True, the short handed tables should have more variance and there are two things I'm doing now to reduce the variance while still making decent money. (1) playing only the long handed tables and (2) playing approx. 5-8% tighter than usual. While I can't play as many hands, I just do 2 tables at once. I have more time in between playing long handed than I do short handed to keep better track of things. Even though I'm playing tighter, it's less stress and easier post flop than playing more hands. Still playing my A game even if I'm tighter and while I might not win as much money, I won't lose as much either. Overall this protects what short BR I have since I guess I never did have the correct BR in the first place. As I stated before, I was playing 2/4 to 5/10 at 4 different sites with a $1000 BR each with no problems. I'm sure sooner or later it would have by what you guys are saying.
