Default Should I Move From Play Money To Real Money?

I signed up to ultimate bet a month ago and have tried to develope my own style, I have not read any books on poker but have read some advice online about strategies.

Ultimate bet give you 1,000 in play money to start with, i started on the 5/10 limit table, then moved up to the 10/20 no limit tables and have been constantly moving up untill today where I am at the 1000/2000 no limit tables where i am still winning overall with a bankroll of 2,900,000.

I usually do OK in the freeroll tournaments, my best result was 16th out of 1200 but i quite often finish in the top 10% or so. I won a tournament of 100 players but I haven't entered that many tournies really.

Is any of this a good indication whether I will be a good player at real money or am I just god against the fish that play with play money!

I dont really have any idea so any advice would be appriecated thanks. I'm looking at depositing a few quid and tryin to build up my bankroll at the .01/.02c tables at UB, will I be any good ?

Default playing

I started on play money and did something similar to what your proposing.

You sound like you're quite serious so this is what I recommend:

1] move to the 0.01/0.02 at UB or Pokerstars by depositing $100

2] Buy Pokertracker ... = $55 - this is used to analyse your game

3] Play 10k hands then post your stats from pokertracker here.. There are ppl who play NL here (e.g me, missot Bonch), Omaha, and Limit (that's the one without the slider bar).

4] I would advise against playing tournaments simply because it is very hard to analyse your game. In ring your averages mean more. Once you master ring, tournaments are trivial.

spend some weeks here posting hands and asking questions.

If you must, post some of your bad beats..... but I ain't going to read them - they happen.

I started on $1/$2 play money a couple of years back.. Six months ago I played in ( and am now comfortable at) $1/$2 real..

On the internet there are no lucky players. It is easy to play 20k hands a month on the net. Statistics bite at this work rate - i.e on the internet you are either a good player - or a dead player..

Best of luck

Bob

Can't disagree with any of that,

though despite bob's comments there's nothing wrong with Single and Multi-table tournaments if they are what floats your boat and suit your play.

i get the feeling too many people just desposit $100 and go straight to $1/$2 tables and lost everything.

i determined to buy up my bankroll from $50 or so into something larger at small stakes tables, not going in head first, I get the feeling if I cant succeed at .01/.02c i should just give it up, its not worth playing such high stakes... I dont think so anyway.

Default at stake

every limit plays differently. At the higher limits you simply get a mixture of some ppl who use 0.01/0.02 strategies, some who use 0.05/.1 techniques .. more who use 0.25/0.5 techniques and so on.

You try going all -in with AA at $1/$2... you'll win $3.. you go all-in with AA at 0.01/0.02 and you'll often win $5....

The winners are those who know how to play breakeven at $1/$2 and can slaughter the lower limits but play at 0.5/1 to make money...

I wouldn't start at anything less than .25/.50, if you want a real game of poker. Anything lower is like play money and that is not poker. You don't need a big BR for the game, it's a decent poker game and will get your feet wet and decent experience.

Sounds like getting PT would be a great idea (I don't have it yet myself) but have a lot of experience instead. It would have saved me a lot of money instead of going to the Poker School of hard knox. Just don't think you have to build your BR from say $100 if you think you can beat the higher level games later. In that case just treat yourself to a BR and get going. One word of caution, higher level stakes are more addicting.

He's playing NL so playing 1c/2c is fine to start with. It won't take long to be able to move up to 5c/10c. And that is when you should make sure you have poker tracker.
