Default Question on Poker Rules

Hi

I had a question on poker rules.
What happens if a hand hasnt been played out already and a player flips his cards over.
And does this matter if he has gone all in
or called someone elses all in
but more play is still to happen
the rule i used to go by was that the hand is automatically folded but my brother n some of his friends disagreed
So wts the official rule?

IRC, If he's calling an all in, and he's the last to act then that's acceptable. You see it all the time on TV and most people play this way (IE: All ins are played with both hands visiable).

If he's going all in and he shows his cards, That's just stupid if people are yet to act. People can see what he has and know whether it's right to call him or not. Can't see anybody doing that...but I think a house rule discussed before hand would cover this situation. I wouldn't see mucking his hand, it's just a stupid move. If you have the nuts, nobody's going to call, and if you're bluffing, everybody is going to call.

IF there is no all-in and there is plenty of play to happen, and a player turns his cards up, it's mucked. In the home games I've played, people are chastised for mucking their hands in this manner unless they are the last one to fold to a single bettor. The reason we don't like it is because it removes the mystery of 2 of the cards. If they happen to be 2 cards I'm looking for, I know my odds just went down and I can adjust my play accordingly (giving me an advantage) and causing me to fold where I may have called. Unfortunately, sometimes you just can't stop it.

I was just about to ask this question also, as it just happened to me a couple weeks ago.

Basically, A player went all in, and there was one other player left in the hand, the player debating the call flips his cards over and says, "should i call", or something like that. My immediate instinct was that that kind of play is not legal, but i am not completely sure. Is there anyone that knows for sure what the ruling is?

i am pretty sure that back in the day, fipping your cards over before calling an all in was legal as long as you were the last player left to act. but now your hand would be considered folded if this were to happen. i also think i remember seeing something similar to this where 2 players check on 4th street and one player flipped his cards up not realizing that there was still 1 card left to come. the person that did this also ended up having the best hand but his hand was folded due to the fact that his cards were prematurely shown.
