Default Opinions needed on outcome of hand

Ladies & Gents,

We have weekly Friendly poker games and this last time, a scenario occurred and I would like other poker players’ take on it. Here’s the scenario:

There are only 2 players left. You and Mike. You have $40 in chips, Mike has $20 in chips. $10 in the pot. The flop, river and turn are all dealt; it’s the last round of betting.

Mike checks.
You ask, “How much do you have?” and since you’re sitting right next to each other, you look at his money and count it. You also touch his money while counting the chips. (REMEMBER, Friendly game, so touching of others chips isn’t a sin, and we do it all the time to change large chips)
Another player across the table makes the comment, “I would have slapped that hand if it touched my money.”
You look at Mike and say, “Can I count it? Is this ok?”
He replies, “Whatever.” Maybe slight attitude.
So you sit back into your chair and say “I Call”

Problem happens here.

Mike shows his cards. You throw in your cards since Mike won. Now Mike says “You came all in, give me your money.”

Questions: When did you even say ALL IN?
When did he ever accept?
By saying “Call” when he checked, are you at fault?
You should have said “Check” instead of “Call”? But is the consequence of saying “I Call” going all in?

Basically, who was right, who was wrong…or any combination thereof. And if you need more clarification, let me know. Also, put yourself in Mike’s shoes

Thanks,

~J

Well first may i say its a nice read becasue its like your the person playing and stuff..Like a book.
It seems like you gotta clear this with the players at the table but. I don't get it you said call and it was all your chips or he thought you said allin??

You should try reading. You remember how right, you learned how last year in school. Anyway thats irrelevant. Mike checked, correct? You said "call" and he flipped over his hand? I don't know how this should be ruled, either it counts as a check for you and you showdown, or his hand is dead because he flipped it over while the action was still on you?(If this is a tournament) Anyways There's no way you ahve to put your money in. You were right.

Either it's a check in which case Mike won.

Or it's an allin and Mike mucked his hand because he never called the alleged "allin"

Mike winning all the chips doesn't seem possible.

Mike wins the current pot, you never bet and he never called. If he wants to be a dick sbout it tell him his hand is dead because if call means raise all-in he never called, therefor he mucked face up.

That's also a good point...

He never came back and said, "Ok, I see your "all in." He just flipped his cards.

Is it possible that after I said "I Call," Turning his cards automatically means that he agrees with the "All in" and he comes in?

Furthermore, isn't a known rule that you never assume anything and make sure everything is clear when you say it?

Wow...Good play by me. Anybody who plays poker should know that calling a check means you also check, however by focusing on the chip count, you made it look like you were calling his all in bet (which he never made). This gives me the oppertunity to "insist" that he was all in had I won the hand but gives me deniablity since I didn't. i am a smart guy.

Personally, the pot is mikes, but it wasn't a good move. I would never pull this at a friendly game because it has the undertones of being dishonest. You actually didn't do anything wrong, but let's face it, that's what you implied...You were right, but only on technicallity.

"Call" techincaly (in my mind) means you are matching the current bet. Therefore, since there is no bet, you are checking.

Or, since it is not a valid option, it is not binding, and there fore your are still to act. And However you deal with exposed hands is up to you guys. Kill it or leave it open, home game rules.

But in no way have you committed ANY chips to this pot.

Trons,

I see your point about that move and how I would be safe either way. However, the only reason I asked him how much he has was a simple psychological game. I wanted him to shit his pants before we finished that hand. From the beginning, I knew he had me.

All said and done, thank you for all of your inputs. Much Appreciated. Play Hard
