Default Table selection question

Why do people chose the table limits they play at?

For example; (not me) I like the game of hold'em but really only a beginner yet I have lots of money so I'm going to play a $5/10 instead of a micro limit table. Or I'm pretty good but I don't have much cash so the low limit tables will have to do for now. I think by understanding why people play at the tables they do can help decide what tables we should play at assuming we have the BR for it. What do you guys think?

Instead of theory of poker it's now theory of table limit selection. Most people care about there money and there must be a general reason why most people play at the limits they do other than thinking they are good enough.

What Limit i play is dictated by my bankroll. I grind and grind and grind to build my bankroll. You should be playing at a table that you have 250-300 bb's for in limit (for 5/10, thats $2,500 to $3,000 in cash dedicated to your BR), for No limit, I think the current BR range is 2,000 to 2,500 bb's (big bettors correct me if I'm off there).

I play a limit that I think I have the biggest Edge at, and that I can afford. In that order without violating the other.

Thanks

I think you have an interesting idea, it can definitely help you figure out your opponents.

I think that it's hard to develop some kind of overall theory about why people choose the type of limit games they want to play with because I've noticed so much variation in playing at different casinos (and online).

I mean, when I first started out, the local Indian casino had a 8/16 table where all the best poker players played at. This was because there weren't any no-limit tables and 8/16 was the highest limit table there. But when I started playing at Commerce in Los Angeles, the 8/16 table turned out to be full of people who didn't have much of a clue how to play poker.

So I think it totally varies depending on where you play, what type of limit games are available there, what type of crowd the casino draws, etc...there are a lot of factors. But once you play at a certain place for awhile, it's easy to figure out which tables are usually the easiset, and on what days (like the 200 NL table at Commerce on a Friday or Saturday night )
