I just came home and started a quick S+G. Had a straight on the river and raised all in, got called by an Ace High hand and wondered why the chips all went to my opponent...
Turns out I only had 10,J,Q,K. Think I'll call it a night!!
What's the most ludicrous thing you've ever done when not concentrating?

Never Play Tired...

I was playing against a full table, drunk as hell. We all were drunk. $100 each and play wouldn't stop until there were 2 people left, then they could decide on a chop/play or chop or just to play it out. We get to heads up, i'm against a 24 year old chick.. I told her i'm not chopping and I want to play it out. She agreed and on we went.
10 or so hands in, I put her on a flush draw on a dead board, bet a bunch, she raised, i re-raise, she calls. Turn blanks. I bet, she calls. River comes an ace, which I don't have, and she checks. I check behind like a donkey and she takes it down with a small pair and the flush draw. The pot was around $500 and a $100 bet would have taken it down. Out of frustration and in my drunken fury of misplaying a solid read, I shove in next hand with AJ off, she flips AA and i'm out.

Ha in similar fashion I just went all in in a ring game with A5 top two pair and the guy against me turned over AQ with no queen showing - but the chips went to him. Turns out I had A4.
Maybe it's just glasses I need :s

Im not an avid poker player, I play for money rarely and its usually $5 buy in, 1v1. However there is a video game I play that gives me the same highs and lows as I get when I do go to the casino and gamble, and thats company of heroes. Its a WWII RTS, and they have a way of penalizing you if you mess up to make you regret losing, by making your win lose ratio go down and your profile will make you look like a novice, even if your good, if you rack up too many losses and not enough wins.
The game is very similar to gambling, but instead of losing money, you lose soldiers. I guess you could say warfare is the highest stakes game in the world, hence why it makes such a good gambling game to go off of.
Anyways when I play, if I drink, its only when Im mildly under the influence (I.E. I can still legally drive and not get hammered with a DUI) I never play it when Im tired, I never play it when Im stressed out, or I need to go to the bathroom really bad.
If I go through my checklist, make sure Im not tired, not drunk like a skunk, not stressed, dont have to go to the bathroom, I can rack up the wins and rank up to higher ranks (Say colonel or lieutenant colonel)
I would apply these same rules to poker, and gambling in general. Im actually moving away from my old favorite games, Baccarat and Craps due to the house edge ultimately winning, but if I play poker, I will neither drink alcohol, or play it while not fully rested, if money is on the line.

I always try to bluff more as I get tired and play more hands. I don't like folding tired either and yes have lost money betting all in on on a four straight in a home game when again drunk and tired. Drunk is worse though have blown 300 dollars in 10-20 minutes playing drunk in cash and felt really sad about it. I had the sense to turn the computer off but I was so drunk I was three and four betting hands like 3/4 and any other hand I had on any board after raising preflop and in any position the finale of course was an AA vs KK. I may have folded but I do not recall folding as memory serves I was playing a good 90percent of hands and anything suited was treated like AA - you know its bad when you get commentary there were a lot of wows typed into chat I guess everyone's standard notes on me were out the window. I am impressed at George's story of making to heads up drunk lol I don't know how anyone can play decent even slightly drunk or tired.

It happened to me something similar. i was playing the river against 2 opponents. Got a Top pair (ace) since the flop and after 2 raises (2/3 of the pot) and calls from them, a draw came on the last card with a possible straight (4 in a row). the first guy checked, and i raised 4x the pot but forgot the last guy at my left for a few seconds. Fortunately he folded but i took a huge risk. i was tired and ansious at the time. big mistake.

Have to agree in this one. This would definitely help you out when you grow in the long run. I just hope that things would work out in the long run in this note. Hope all would be well when we play soon.
