Hi everyone, new to this forum. I have never been to a poker room at a casino before and have a couple of questions on what to expect. I just recently moved to WA where there are casinos all over, I lived in TN before where there were none. I want to get into playing NL hold em tournaments by starting off with low amount buy ins. Been looking online and several places to play nearby. I have played quite a bit of tournament style hold em while playing in a poker league (in TN) and home games so not really needing any advice on playing, strategy, etc. I would just like to know what events happen from the time I show up and the time the first hand is dealt. Do I sign up, get chips, table assignments, high card for dealer?, etc. First game I am thinking about playing as a daily $33 buy in NL tournament. Thank you in advance for the help and tips.

You'll get a slip with a table number and seat number. Sit down, the table dealer will have chips already for you. There will or should be TV's showing the blind times and levels, so sit back and grind. You'll be hooked the first time out. The only option to play online right now is Betonline. There is a freeroll on BluffAway in my sig if you want to build an online roll. Otherwise, good luck at the tournaments.

Thanks for the reply. Do I give my buy in to the person I get my slip from or the dealer? How far in advance do you recommend arriving before the start time? Aslo, this may be a dumb question, I have played other games at casinos (blackjack, three card poker, etc) before where you occasionally tip the dealer, you dont do this in a hold em tournament, do you?

You pay the cage (cashier) and they give you the slip. You give that to the dealer at the table to make sure you're in the right spot.

Register 15 minutes before the event.

1st place and/or 2nd place should give a nice tip but not many players do. They do in cash games, a lot.Are you a BluffAway.com member? Become a member today! Bovada freerolls coming soon!
