Good day to everyone! My name is Ben and I am a student at Belmont University. I have been given the task to do an ethnography on poker or poker culture.
My basis is on whether age or experience matters in the poker society?
I am looking to this forum to help me answer this age old question!!
All in the name of research!
Every post could be used in my paper/ethnography and I am attaching 4 questions to maybe help get everyone on the right path.
Looking for semi-detailed answers since unfortunately college does not smile upon 1-2 word answers. All opinions matter!!!
Again thank you to anyone that helps me out with this great assignment, I believe poker is indeed a culture and need to be further studied.
1) How long have you been playing poker?
2) So when you started playing poker, did you think that age or experience mattered?
3) Do you believe age plays a factor in today’s poker society?
4) In your opinion, how does experience compare to age as a benefit or hindrance in the game of poker?
Looking forward to seeing some opinions!!!

The forum is just dead. I'll answer anyway.
1) I've been playing since I was 16, I'm 22 now. I only started playing seriously last year.
2) I didn't even think poker was much of a skill game when I started.
3) No. All that matters is how many hands you put in, how many hours of study you do.
4) Don't understand this question.

1) How long have you been playing poker?
I started playing house games when I was 12 or so, then more frequently when I was 16. I've been going to casinos since I was 18. I am now 22 and have been playing seriously for around 18 months.
2) So when you started playing poker, did you think that age or experience mattered?
When I started playing seriously I absolutely knew experience mattered. It was very difficult to understand when to play and fold as well as how to get value on strong hands.
3) Do you believe age plays a factor in today’s poker society?
Age plays a huge factor in my poker game. Being young in my opinion is amazing, players automatically think you are an overly aggressive player. There have been plenty of pots where I have the nuts or close to it and severely overbet the pot, lots of times players put me on a bluff because of my age and call. Of course sometimes they fold.
Also, if you are running hot and keep getting good hands a lot of times they thing you are a loose player and will call with a wide variety of hands.
4) In your opinion, how does experience compare to age as a benefit or hindrance in the game of poker?
age means nothing if you don't have experience. However, i wouldn't say experience has anything to do with the amount of years playing. I think the proper question would be skill vs. age? Skills plays a much bigger part in poker then experience.
Good luck with your project.
