While drinking, playing cards, and dealing with a guy who kept talking about how good he was, and how he makes so much money at the casino. Here is my story if anyone is interested...
This weekend I hosted a tournament style poker game as I always do. A friend of mine, who I often play with, invited a guy I've never met to come to the game. I said it was fine as long as he knew how to play and had the buy in. We were all pretty tipsy before the game even started as we had all been drinking, swimming, and playing baseball that afternoon. And since I had just come off of 30 day antibotics, I was drinking a little more then usual. We start the game and right off the bat this guy is talking about how much money he makes playing at the casino, and how good he is and what not. The very first hand he goes busto with AK vs 88 after calling an all in on the river with A high. So he rebuys...
About an hour goes by and he is down a little more then half his original rebought stack. He had been making some really strange bets the whole game. Like betting 1000 chips into a 300 chip pot holding middle pair with 4 to a flush on the board. Then when the blinds were at 150/300, he raised 1000 on top, preflop. It gets to my brother and my brother says he is all in, then puts the 1300 chips out there and starts to count the rest of his chips. This guy starts calling my brother a cheater saying if he put the 1300 in the middle, then it has to be just a call. I told him that since my brother announced he was all in, and we all heard him say it, that he could put the rest of his chips in the pot after counting them. He said no, then said my brother is a cheater and I'm running a bad game for letting him cheat. He ends up folding to my brothers all in after about 5 mins of bitching and calling us cheaters. lol
Then, the next time he was in the big blind, while posting the big blind, he throws 1000 chips on top of his BB post. I told him he could not do that he is acting out of turn, he then cut me off and said "I can do whatever I want". I said no, you are acting out of turn, that money in the pot could be considered dead and have to stay in the pot, but I'll be a nice guy and let you pull that 1000 out. He said whatever and pulled the 1000 chips out. Everyone folded and he won the small blind on that hand.
Then this happened... He's in a hand with 1 other player. He raised preflop with 8s 4h and got called.
Flop Comes 8h Kh 10d
He then says he is all in, and gets called by the other player, who he barely had covered. The other player turns over 9h JavaScript
The turn is 2h and the river is 6h
So they both have a flush, but as you can see, he lost with a smaller flush. So we tell him he lost and to give the chips to the other player. He then says, "we both have a K high flush, it's a split pot". I say, "no sir! You lost the hand give him the chips right now". He says, "you don't know shit about poker, we both have a K high flush it's a split pot". After about 5 minutes of him refusing to give up his chips and him telling me, my brother, and everyone at the table we are wrong and should look up how to play cards, I lost it...
I'm not proud in anyway of what I did next. I'm ashamed of my self that I let my poker emotions/mass amounts of alcohol get the best of me and acted like a child.
I charged the guy and threw all his (not really his because he just lost most of them) poker chips onto the ground and told him to get the fuck out or I was going to beat his ass. It got pretty crazy after that and all the chips on the table ended up getting knocked onto the floor as well as a few beer bottles that broke when they hit the ground. It took my brother and 2 other people to get me off of that guy and into the other room so that he could leave. It ruined the whole poker game. I offered to pay the chip leader half of the prize pool out of my own pocket but he wouldn't take it. We ended up giving everyone their buy in back, even the people who were already eliminated. We even gave that guy's girlfriend his money back too.
I have played in 1000's of home games and live games and have never lost my cool like that. I'm still pretty embarrassed about the whole thing, but also pissed off at how much of an idiot that guy was. And the fact that he came into my house and was pushing my buttons all night... ugh not cool.
So yeah, I'm a psycho, but oh well. At least I know how to play cards.

Psycho? Hardly, A bit overboard maybe, but you're human. I'm sure most people at least understand, I would have wanted to punch him as well. Breaking up the game right then and there was probably for the best.
As host, I would suggest at least drinking lightly. It's your responsibility to try to keep things running smoothly, and it's easier to do that with a clear head. Next time this happens, I'd look to the friend who spoke on behalf of the individual and tell him to take them to another room or outside and talk him down.

I definitely won't be drinking like that at anymore poker games. I always want the prize pool to be a big as possible, but I don't really like the idea of playing with people who obviously don't understand the game.

My suggestion is just dont drink when your going to play poker...
It never results in any good...
But yeah, if the guy cant read a board then kick his ass for playing something he cant actually play!
why drive a race car if youve got no arms?
mehh, I'd of kicked his ass and took his money, no respect to me in my home... no respect to him anywhere.
Been a while guys, we need to play sometime...
HU anyone? :P
regards
Liam
