Hands like jack king suited always seem to get me if I'm in late position - Of course there's exceptions to this rule, but on the whole I always try to see a flop, either by limping at a soft table, or raising around the table's sweet spot at if it's aggressive (because then I'll just fold if I get re-raised).
I'm finding it to be one of the most awful hands to play - Once I hit the flop, I'm usually beat, but either decide to call with top pair, thus spewing money, or else I may very well be ahead, but I fold to 3-bets far too often from aggressive players. (Perhaps I should just be avoiding these suited-gapped high junk cards lol)
What does everybody else do with this hand (especially from late position)?
I'm considering putting it in the 'don't play for cheap' category of my hand rankings, but that leaves me with a very tight image and no action in pots![]()

Limping with JK and such - Yuck?

Late position KJs is a pretty good hand, but I think it needs to be planned out to be profitable. It's biggest strength is flopping Pair+Draws or combos draws. Like KsJs on a Kh7s3s or a QsTd3s board, it will have a huge amount of equity, use pokerstove to compare it's equity against different hands/ranges. You'll see even if it's behind, it is never drawing dead.
As a top pair you want to be calling down against a moderately agressive player who is known to bluff or bet weaker pairs often. You probably don't want to be calling down big bets 3 streets, unless they're a total retard. It's great against calling stations, as long as you make sure you play cautiously if a draw completes.
KJs is great to steal the blinds with, often stronger than a lot of their calling ranges. It can be used to 3bet bluff on occasion, as long as you know what you're doing, as it blocks hands like AK,KK,JJ and may scare off weaker Aces and Middle pairs.
If you have a hand or specific situation please post it.Last edited by KnightofNarg; 05-15-2011 at 12:01 PM.

Thank-you very much for your response KnightOfNarg, it was very helpful.
If a particular hand arises where I'm playing KJs I'll be sure to post it for some more specific advice.
Great point about it being stronger than a lot of opponents calling ranges; I think I'll try to learn more about ranges and evaluating my opponents range. I hear those terms mentioned a lot, and understand basically what it is (the range of hands that an opponent will play depending on certain bet patterns/amounts/situations), but apart from that my knowledge is lacking.
I don't feel confident enough to 3-bet with KJs (not only because my 3-bets are sometimes ill-timed, but also) because I play mostly at micro-stakes.
They scare me; People can (and will) call with just about anything (which is great, so long as I don't bluff, hehe...)
