do people who play big limit cash games generally move up from small limits or simply have a lot of money from a tournament win etc. Are there any examples of players who haven`t won a a big tournament prize but make a large amount from purely ring games? I`m asking this because i want to move up slowly until i`m playing in 300/600 ... i`m currently on .15/.25 so i`m well on my way![]()

I started with .5/.10 (50$ DEPOSIT) games 2 months ago, now I play 1/2$ or 2/4.
Just depends on how you feel on the limit's and how play on them.

Most players that make a living at the game do it through ring game play.

daniel negreanu
I remember reading an article about daniel negreanu and his progression through limits, as you know now he plays a lot of tournaments but was also a player in the big game at the bellagio with 2k/4k limits and such... but here it is..
"4 years 10-20
8 months 20-40
4 months 40-80
2 years 100-200
3 years 200-400/400-800
1 year 1000-2000
6 months 2000-4000
6 months 4000-8000"
these are all approximates, but its kinda interesting in showing how his game progressed and such, also the start with 10/20 was when he first started playing professionally i think, so before that he'd play lower limits of courseanother day, another dollar

I think he started 10/20 in canada maybe 5/10. they didn't have lower limits then.
I basically started playing 5/10 although I have a smattering of experience in 2/4 games maybe 5-10 sessions before i just played 4/8, 5/10.
as long as you are 10/20 and down there are plenty of bad players, so if you have the roll you can skip the lower limit games like 2/4.
there is no need to play 4/8 hold em if you can beat the 10/20 game unless you do not have the bankroll for 10/20 yet.Read my musings on poker and life at PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog
