I may very well be wrong but : white =1 red=5 blue=10 green=25

Black = 500?

Yep np.. If you were planning on buying some. Don't diversify too much. 3-4 colors is plently. In fact in a .5/1 blinds game (1k chips)

250 $1
100 $5
50 $10/.25

I find players like it more when they have a medium stack of chips in front of them. No one likes to have to only toss in one chip. It's "funner" for players to stack and count them.

my poker chip set has 100 whites, 100 greens, 50 reds, 50 blacks.

Yep those work fine too Just make sure no one sneaks any in. ( it happend once with us so I'm just always making sure)

I picked up some nice plastic chips that are pretty thik and youd think they were clay by the sound and texture.

Those are real nice if im thinking of what you are. They come in 100 25red blue green white and only cost like 5 bucks. Thats what I used for a long time. I still bring them out when we need more chips
