Default In too DEEP!

Alright as a bunch of you may have read I built .50 to 28 bucks in two days. After I risked half my roll with a sit n go. And WON. I thought of myself as the best poker player around. lol. OK heres where I get in too deep. Last night before playing the 1+0 tournys I decide to play a sit n go. I last till about 6th busted out on river. I think alright no biggie. Ok so then I enter the Stud HL and Omaha HL 1+0 Lose both of them. At one time in the Omaha I was at 125 bucks and Got back up too 2000 something then lost it all very quickly because of crappy river cards and stuff. So then after that I go play a little sit n go again. (As Im deciding to play a sit n go Im also thinking about ways to make up for my losses and Im thinking playing this sit n go and if I win I can make up for lost money tonight) First hand I pick up Ace Queen I bet 100 guy calls Flop A K Q Im thinking alright heres my chance I go all in. Guy calls lone behold hes holding big slick. I lose another. Then this morning I think alright its a new day mid as well try another Sit n Go. Alright I go a entire hour waiting for some cards. Finally I pick up something decent I limp in. Flop J 10 8 Im all in Turn J river J WOW I was pissed to high hell. So My bankroll also went from 28 bucks back to .50 in one day. I guess this is a good lesson for me to learn early rather than later. I was thinking about putting 50 bucks on to so I could have a bigger bankroll to play with.

Hey Thrill,

Yeah, I was going to tell you to not do this, but felt you'd have to experience it for yourself . I think every poker player has experienced this at least once . If they haven't, then they ain't playing it right lol!

My story's semi similar to yours, but for NL HE. Essentially I started with 30 bucks (thanks Travis!), set a goal of building my BR up to 100 bucks on the .01/.02 HE tables. I figured it'd take me several weeks to do this. Well, it only took a week and I felt like a god. So I said to myself, "Now that I reached this goal, it's only natural to give .1/.25 a try, right?" I go there. First night's gravy, I go up like 20 bucks in 20 hands. Now of course I'm feeling great, thinking that the 1/25 tables are just cake.

Next day is a nightmare. I hit 1 bad beat, and then tilted my roll down to... drum roll please.... 8 bucks!!!! This hurt sooo bad man, I mean to see my roll drop below what I started with, and know that I gotta build it up AGAIN on penny tables? But I learned my lesson. Fortunately I was able to build it up to 17 bucks on penny tables that night (the night I leant scubaduff 5 bucks), and the next day I went on a trip for 2 weeks (didn't play any poker, but watched lots on TV --- I was in the states at the time and it seemed like every sports channel was having poker marathons).

But yeah, I waited over a month after this experience before going back to the 1/25 tables. I essentially just read, played (building roll), and watched lots of poker. Last week I moved to 1/25 tables after losing all respect for these penny players, and am VERY pleased with the results .

The best part is I've built my roll up to the point where 4 bad beats in a row barely makes a dent, it feels good .

Cheers,

Mike

PS. If I were to give you 1 suggestion, it'd be to slow down and not rush things... Injecting 50 bucks into your roll's probably a good idea, but if you feel rushed, you'll just lose your roll again. Saying, "I gotta get back what I lost earlier today." is just going to cost you more money.

It was very very unfortunate that you managed to win so much on the first times you played. Do a favor to yourself and promise that you will deposit money only 1 time.

I quess that now you will play S&G's or 0.1/0.25 which is wrong but ok do it anyway.

If you win then ok, well done. But if your bankroll falls to 15$, stop and play pennies or 0.02/0.04. Nothing worse than someone so inexpierenced trying to win back the money that he lost earlier.. Money that they wasnt even his in the first place.

It's funny, but I seem to recall someone telling me that it was a good thing when I lost all that money (first major Broll slide)... was it you vense? Now you're saying it's unfortunate that he won so much, so soon.

Again, I agree lol!

Cheers,

Mike

I didn't read the thread but here is my theory:

Everyone has to take a shot at a bigger limit or tougher game at least once in their "career" and learn the lesson themselves. Even though they know it is a bad idea.
