Lightbulb Would a felt table cloth work?

Hi, I have been playing poker with friends for quite a while now and I was thinking that I should probably start playing on felt to make it more professional and all. I have very little skill in carpentry but was told by someone that all I would need to do was get the felt material, make a sort of table cloth out of it and drape it over the round table I have been using.

I have been doing research today and it seems to me that a felt table covering would not work and that I would have to put a foam underlay on and use air gun staplers and other stuff. Not only do I not think I have the skills for this, I would also like to use the table for eating dinner aswell when i'm not playing poker.

Please reply and tell me if i could just make a table cloth out of felt or whether I would need to put some more work into it.

Thankyou in advance.

you can buy a temporary felt poker table top with chips holders and a felt top, that you can fold out when you're playing a game, and fold up and put in the corner when you're eating dinner. I don't think they cost that much. You might be able to find one in a local pharamacy and definitely online.

Yes I knew about them and thought about buying one but found that my table was a few inches to short for it, it might still work but i'd rather have the class that I think a felt table cloth would give my games.

If you have some skill sin carpentry, hopw can you not know how to use a staple gun? My god (and I'm ashamed to say this) but the idiots on the reality home improvement shows can do it for the first time on national TV. Its not htat hard. Just get a foam overlay, glue that to the table, then pull the table cloth tight over it staple it to the bottom of the table. Not that hard. Hell if you want to get fancy, get a thicker foam piece, cut it into a circle the size of the table, making a ring, and then staple the fake leather over it to make arm rests....

In response to marm:

I did say I still wanted to eat dinner off my table, I'm not prepared to eat spaghetti over some nice felt thats been stapled to the table.

Really, I was just wondering if I would need to somehow build in a foam underlay to my table cloth (perhaps by folding the felt over the foam and sewing it together or something) or whether I could just cut the felt to fit and lay it over the table. Without a foam underlay would the felt still work?

I think that maybe the felt wouldn't be heavy enough and when moving chips across the cloth I would make creases and stuff. So I could use velvet which is heavier (but maybe not so good to play on) or perhaps somehow increase the weight of the end of the cloth by folding it over somesort of extra weights all the way round and sewing it in place.

Just some ideas, please tell me if you think any of this would work or you have better suggestions
