Hello, I am new to poker and play on a low populated site which has a fee of 15$ a month and has many 20/50 dollar events a day for the winner..and a thousand dollar event everyday with 200 and 100 dollar dailys also. I was just wondering if this is an ok site to play on to get better at poker, I read these forums as much as I can to get better and it does help me. But I was just wondering if someone knew some books or something that could help me get better I am a very quick learner and if I knew more about the game I feel I could read people and be very good at the game, but recent bad beats are killing me and feel like I suck.
Today I had JJ and called a 3x bb raise vs X
I know history of X betting big with AQ AJ AK, after the flop with something like 3c 5h 7s X bets double the pot, I raise all in, he shows AsQs I show JJ turn is a spade and river is a spade he wins.
I just dont know what I can do in situations like this, this is 1 of many bad beats ive been getting daily, thanks and sorry for any grammar or mistakes I may have written, thanks for your time!
Edit: The site uses chips, just thought id let everyone know if they were wondering.

I would not be to upset with that call, you dont really expect someone to catch runner runner everytime. You made a good read, and played well, but you just got a bad beat. Nothing you can really do about it.
One thing that my golf instructor tells me that works in most things I do other than golf is too not worry about what you did wrong, but focus on what you did right.
You correctly read your opponet, he just outdrew you. There really is not much you can do about that, it happens quite often.

Whats the name of the site that your playing on? and if you need any books for online cash games or online tourneys than I suggest Dan Harrington's books; Their great! Anyway to keep this reply short and simple; you made the perfect play, your opponent was just unfortunately stupid enough to call with an ace high and with no real draw, but hell thats poker, there will be numerous times where people will catch miracle cards on you, you just have to learn how to deal with it. As long as you make more right than wrong decisions then you'll make money in the long run.

Thanks, I registered on ultimate bet with 50 dollars which is all I promised to use but what do you know I make some mistakes, im going up and down and some guy re raises my raise im all in with 30 bucks KK vs his K S off suit. this fucking kills me, it dosent show the cards till the flop turn and river come out so I see his kq off suit I expect the money to go to me, well sure enough some bullshit like 2 3 8 j 4 come up but what do you know he gets a fucking 4 card flush, with his queen so that means both my kings werent the club either so the only other king in the deck / folded was the one I didnt have I just dont get the chances of getting a 4 card flush and calling a 30 dollar bet when the bb is 50 cents, its pretty big. I go out for a little after being in complete rage for 30 minutes, I proceed to paying for 50 more dollars, I suck lose my money, I know im good so I figure ill just deposit 1 more time to make my money back and what do you know I lose again I just dont know what to do anymore, any advice will be helpful! maybe linking an advice that allows like 1-25 dollar minimum deposits? thanks.

Here's your problem, you're playing 25/50c tables right? With a $50 bankroll? You are highly likely to go broke in that case no matter how good you are.
Some useful tips (don't take any offence, it's not intended but you need to know this):
1. You aren't good. You are a beginner and therefore probably a losing player, maybe breakeven at 1/2c if you don't tilt.
2. You need a proper bankroll. This means about 20 buyins for whatever level you play. If you buyin with $50, you want about $2k give or take a little.
3. My advice, set up an account with full tilt or someone through a rakeback provider (there's one in my sig which I use) on a site that does rakeback, this gets you money for just playing. Then deposit $100 and play the lowest stakes available, even if it's 1/2c. Get used to the game and then move up as you get more confident.
4. Trust me, if you jump straight into 25/50c you will get eaten alive.

$50 would be fine as long as you put no more than $5 on the line at any table. And with that amount be prepared to maybe have to redeposit in the future if you run bad.
To spam my sig links again (
) have a look at the site in the first link, it'll tell you what you need to know regarding rakeback/instant bankrolls etc. Basically if you sign up to a poker site through them they will give you rewards for playing there, it could be rakeback (a percentage of the rake that sites take from each pot given back to you) or instant bankrolls (where they give you a lump sum after playing a small amount of hands. The latter would be useful for you seeing as you don't have alot to deposit. Reason I recommend that particular site is it's the one I've always used and they seem reliable.

I see a lot of players go crazy after a bad beat both online and actual games. After playing a good amount of poker. I don't let a bad beat phase me or put me on tilt. I just go over the play a couple of times and decide if I made the right play. If I still think I played it right, then I'm fine with the lost because I know that in the long run, making the right decisions pays off. But if I realize that I made the wrong call or if I couldve avoided the loss, I think about the sittuation again and try to learn as much as I can from it.
Bad beats are a part of poker and the moment you sit at a poker table you are putting yourself open for bad beats.
I love when players go on tilt. That's the best time to milk them.Last edited by AndyJCL; September 28th, 2008 at 08:25 PM.
