Hi, I have been playing poker for about 2 years now for moeny anyways. All my friends pretty much have the same poker sets. Aluminum cases with the same chips (diced or some other design). They all seem to be th same as far as colors and weight. They don't seem to be real clay but have thsoe metal inserts. My question is what kind of chips do they use in real tournaments? I'm looknig to spend around $200-$300 on a nice set of chips. Anyone have any reccommendations of what site I should order them from or what specific type of chips I should get? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ebay has solid sets starting @ 150 me thinks...last time I was on and bought my set, I couldn't believe the percentage difference between insert, and clay - regardless, they start around 140-150 there.

I ordered a clay set from pokerchips.com

They took a while to make...400, each 100 was a separate 2-color combo. They are really sweet though. I highly suggest these. You can totally tweak em however you want, it just costs more to do so.

There's a site where you can customize your set in regards to how many colors and how many of each color you can get. I forgot which site it was and it might've been someone spamming the board.

I've never bought chips and don't plan on doing so anytime soon, if at all. There was a time when I wanted chips and was shopping around. There's a small chain called Gamer's Paradise that sells poker paraphrenalia along with pool cues, dart stuff, etc.

When you throw the shipping into the equation, in my extremely minimal research, I found that looking local was the best way to go.

You can't go wrong many times with EBay, though. There are a lot of people on there giving chip sets away for using them as a referral, too.

Hey all - I've been lurking forever but this topic inspired me to post.

I've gone through samples & seen clay, composite with inserts, composits, & cheap lousy ebay dice chips. After all of this I think that if you want a GOOD chip you have to spend $0.50/chip to get clay chips and if you want it customized you have to spend $1.00/chip.

The cheap chips are horrible and almost unplayable in my opinion, but a nice middle ground is the NEXGEN chips (google search for it). These are composite chips with edgespots that are $0.20/chip and feel pretty good. The cool this is that they have a recessed center that you can put your own customs labels in. There's a guy here that makes/sells just the labels.

1000 chips = $200 + $50ish for the labels

WIth the explosion of poker recently, and the commercial district jsut now seeming ot catch up in the last 6 months or so, you should try the phone book. I have noticed so many gaming shops springing up in my town, where gambling is illegal, its funny. Try looking around twon for stuff, you can probably get a deal similar to what you find online, but won't have to pay shipping. That said, I got mine from Ebay, but that was before anything local had goos tuff.
