Help a player out
Hi there
Im new to the board and was looking for a bit of help with my game.
Iv been playing for prob 6-8 months now and seem to have got the basics down, know when to fold and how to slow play certain hands and how to play good hands.
But what i cant seem to get is when i get delt a semi decent hand but totally miss on the flop. Then when some one bets i usally just fold (unless im on a draw or think they have a high card)
Is this the correct thing to do?
I seem to be in this position a lot and end up just wasting through a load of chips especially when blinds go up. Is it because im playing to many marginal hands?
I play at bars and online if that changes anything.
Thanks in advance and sorry if it doesnt make sense.

When you totally miss a flop, there is also a good chance the other guy missed it too, and the only way to find out is to bet it or raise it.
Today I was holding 88 and raised 3X BB preflop and got one caller, the button.
The flop was Ac,Kc,10c. I was going to check and give up the hand if he bet, but then thought better of it. I figured if he called me with hi cards, there's a good chance he doesn't hold a club. If he called me with small PP there's a great chance he will think I have hi cards. So I bet it, half the pot, and he folded. But the only way to find out where I stood was to bet.
I used to give up on smaller PPs with all overcard flops, but I don't anymore, and I find I win a good % of those hands by betting instead of checking.

Thats fair enough when you are playing heads up with another play (all others fold at the table because someone raised) but when playing with say 5 people in each hand, betting usally just gets a few callers and almsot surly one person hit.

If there are 5 people seeing the flop, then you didn't raise enough preflop.

I think raising pre flop is probably the part of the problem.
I think because i keep missing the flop i feel like im just bleeding chips, so dont raise enough or at all when i get a good hand delt to me.
sk8freak_21 why do you think its not accurate?

the standard raise amount preflop is 3xbb +1bb per limper. If your playing in micro stakes where players call 3x raises with marginal hands, they're usually gonna call 4-5x raises as well. Save your chips and just raise the standard amount. If they are calling with worse hands, you will profit in the long run. Always keep position in mind as well. Alot of newer players are playing big pots out of position. This is a HUGE flaw.

are you talking about not raising premiums hands at all, becuase you get called and they suck out? If so, that is a terrible train of thought. You always want to raise big pairs to try to narrow the field. More players seeing the flop means more chances of your aces getting cracked
