Strengths V Weaknesses
Question of the week: What are your 3 greatest strengths/assets at the poker tables and why? Not good starting hand selection or aggressive play, but personality traits and skills.
My 3 greatest strengths
#1 - My ability to read people. Honestly, this is just something I can do naturally, sometimes I don't even observe anything but I simply KNOW. It must be something I am seeing subconciously. obviously this helps me zilch in online games. I sometimes have a hard time trusting this intuition and 9 times out of 10 it burns me when I ignore it.
#2 - My memory. While it's not photographic, it's pretty damn good. It lets me focus on the players, the game flow, and so on. Instead of trying to recall something that happened 15 minutes ago, it's just there in my head.
#3 - My open-mindedness. I like to play devils advocate for just about anything, it helps me understand people and how their minds work. I then use this to help me through tough decisions: I can use my poker IQ to come to a conclusion, my reading ability to confirm or deny this opinion, and then finally if need be I can really get inside my opponents head and run around a bit, to see where he's comin from and what he's thinking. I've always been able to quickly chacterize people upon meeting them (this may go along with my ability to read people, but I think they are slightly different), and also let new information come into play.

1- my reading abilitys im getting pritty good at working through a hand and observing players now, picking up on points however i dont trust it enough so i need to fine tune this one a bit but i can feel it coming on if you get me.
2-my brain, im pritty good at mental arthimetic ect ( useless at spelling mind lol)
but it helps me work out the odds quite quickly.
3-money managment.
Weakness's hmm
need to grow some more balls i reckon focus on crushing the ultra lag players rather than just slowly beating them.

My strengths are more of the "stopping myself losing" variety rather than "owning the tables".
1. The abililty to move back down when things aren't going well at a particular limit. I'm not so up myself that I believe I HAVE to play x/x limit until I can move up, I'm well prepared to move up and down depending on how things are going.
2. Bankroll management. While it's true that technically it may hold me at limits longer and that I could maybe take shots earlier, I am such a BR nit and add that to #1, I can be confident that I won't go broke anytime soon.
3. Realising when I'm playing bad and quitting before tilt sets in. It's been a long while since I spewed a buyin in true tilting style and I quite quickly notice when I'm making bad decisions and end the session straightaway. Also setting a stoploss at the beginning of a day helps stop things spiralling out of control.
Weaknesses:
1. Not playing enough. Simple as that, I don't put in enough hours at the tables. I study a ton and read forums/watch vids but I need to play more.
2. Swings get me down more than they should, I should probably just have more confidence that I can turn a downswing around.
3. Not thinking situations through enough at the time. I have a tendency to bet/raise/call/check before I've considered everything and too often find myself looking at the hand later thinking "well yeah, it's obvious what I should've done, why am I doing that?!?!".

I agree with David's #2 and #3 weaknesses.
I have no strengths as I suck.

These actually seem to be my weaknesses. I need to work on putting people on hands, as well as remembering past hands and how people acted. I have ZERO focus at the table, even live, and don't why. Maybe it's my ADD

Strengths
1. Ability to not let some bad plays/bad nights results get me down
2. Low tilt factor while playing
3. Constantly working hard at my game away from the tables
Weaknesses
1. Not paying enough attention to obvious reads villains are constantly handing to me on a platter, or in some cases paying attention, but not writing them down for later use
2. Justifying stupid calls/raises/folds before I make them
3. Trying to force action when nothing is going right for me

Strengths
1. Discipline - Have rules and sticking to them
2. Attitude - I play to win just not to play
3. Ability to put someone on a hand correctly with the exception of suit.
Weaknesses
1. Losing the big picture when I am the big stack in tournies
2. Getting to the correct bet size for the hand I hold sometimes I over bet and sometimes I don't bet enuff
3. Wanting to "check" what my opponent has occasionally
Still I must be doing something right Today my bank roll hit 3x what it was when I started despite the occasional big run of losses. Thats over 11 months playing in 2 yrs. Yeah I know pretty slow but hey I'm tight and I don't play much.
