Talking QUALIFIERS QUESTIONS

Need your opinion on this one...

I play Qualifiers tournaments as i play regular tournaments even late in the tourney...

Even if i'm "almost" sure to make the cut, I continue to go over the top and raise shorter stack both to thin their stacks and also to make more chips to ensure my place in the final. Of course I do it with good or great hand such as 10-10 to A-A + AQ, AK and sometimes 9-9 AJ or other medium stregh hands.

My concerns comes from this thing... I saw another player in a PP 1/4 million qualifier going over the top of a shorter satck with QQ and have been called by 3-3... of course 3 hits the turn and cut his stack in half. It also could have been KK or AA or AK with an A or a K hitting the board. would you have just call 33s raise and wait to see the flop?

This guy that was almost sure to go in with 24 players remaining and 19 entries in prizes finaly almost blided himself out and went out on the bubble with JJ against KK.

Normaly I'm a very effective blind and small raise stealer in regular tourneys when the game become really tight but, this heart breaking story makes me realized it may not worth it in qualifiers considering finishing 1st or 11th is exactly the same thing...

What you guys do in qualifiers?
And Second, question: Do you think Qualifiers woths the price? That was the first 2 weeks I tried it and I spent 300$ to qualify to 2 215$ buy-in tourney... considering I'm not making money during that time is it still good.

BTW i'm new in poker forums, I looked to 5 or 6 others and this one is very shapr... loaded with quality posters IMO... at least posters I agree with... dosent necesserly means quality but...

YOu hit : D which gives

For tournies with a fixed even payout, like multi-winner satellites, you need only to burst the buibble, not play to win. In regualrt tournies, there are 2 races, One for the bubble, and the second for the final table. In a sat, there is only the bubble, and it doesnt matter if you have 1 chip or 1 million chips, you still get a seat.

Overt aggressiveness is -EV when you have a big stack in a Sat. Playing smart and aggressive is a differnt story. Why risk parts of your stack repeatedly to win small amounts of chips you really dont need?

In the QQ scenario, You really can't flat call, and you really can't raise too much here and commit yourself. But the problem arises, can you really release this hand, and give up the oppurtunity to knock somebody out, when the Flop comes down Ten high? THeres no way to put them on a set. You really gotta pay of a short stack in these situation. He just tilted and busted slowly.

So you would have just raise the minimum amount and wait to see the flop...?

Then, react to what you see...

No....

I would be less aggressive in general... Trying not to commit chips to the pot when you can easily coast into the bubble. Dont go weak tight, but dont try to bully people either. Theres no need. Theres is no final table you have to build up for, you jsut need to burst the bubble.

If I get a strong hand, I'm goign to play it strong, making standard PF raises, and then pushing them off the hand if I hit or they seem to miss. But I DO NOT want to be pushing chips around. I have my stack, I'm going to keep it.
