Default weird occurance

someone i work with recently had party poker close her US account out. party poker sent her a check for $57. she then tried to deposit in her bank account. a couple of days later, the bank sent back the check saying that $57 wasn't worth it for them to cash. she is going back to the bank on friday to get it straightened out.
has anyone ever heard of this? a bank not wanting to cash a check because it was too small? i could understand if the check was under dollar but $57.

well, thats what i said. hell, i've even cashed checks that were worth less than a buck. thats why i think its weird and am asking if anyone else had ever run into this situation.
i was kind of wondering if it was because its an out of country check that may of caused it or, because the check originated with party poker and because its a "gambling site".
i'll update when my friend gets a straight answer from the bank.
