Since you're asking this question, I'm assuming you're at least *somewhat* new to online play. With that in mind, I'll pass along some useful advice I found on a different site.
The article recommended never sitting down with more than 5% of your total bankroll, at a no-limit table. The swings are high enough that you don't want to risk a larger portion than that on any one hand. From experience, this seems to be true. If I put say, 10% of my bankroll on the table, I'm nervous about losing it, and jolted if I actually do. So the easy answer is to build up your bankroll until 5% covers a larger buy in.
I halfway agree with the previous post, because I used to always put in the max buy in for a table. $10 on a 5-10 cent table, for instance. It's not bad advice, but again, consider how much of your total bankroll you're putting into play.
The bottom line is that poker is a game of skill AND chance, and you never want to throw away too much of your roll at once, even if you're just playing for entertainment. You will have plenty of hands where you SWEAR you had it, and the all-in doesn't go your way.
