Default This tilting thing...

So I'm on tilt . Basically played pretty bad poker tonight (including the pfo #2 lol), worst thing was I knew it but kept playing bad. Got unlucky in a $22 sng but thought i could play properly and win a bit in a vc 10/20c donktable. As it turned out i became a bigger donk. pushing into aces after saying to myself "he's probably got aces", then pushing AKo into suited flop after thinking "he's probably got the flush". It was like i was a complete beginner again, haven't played that bad in months. Don't know why i do it tbh. $80 later (could've been worse) enough's enough, my main poker aim is not about the bankroll, it's about sorting out my tilting.

I seem to be ok in tourneys and my play doesn't get too affected but if i step into a cash game and something doesn't go my way, well, it's tilt time. I'm gonna re-read zen (Theory n practice is on the backburner for now) then really work at being patient when i play (i rarely tilt live, only online, must be a patience thing).

I will also put a sticky note on my wall with the words "be patient you fucking donk". might help

Any other ideas on what i can do to reduce tilt/impatience in my game?

I am properly rolled btw and it's not the money that "bothers" me, it's my play more than anything.

I'm sure to get a flame or 2 as common knowledge tells us to concentrate 100% on the game. However, especially when only playing 1 game online, I try to keep myself busy between hands I'm in. Check out the forum, read some mail, hold & talk to the baby, stuff like that.

A big key to poker (texas holdem anyway) is patience, and I find I'm a bit more patient at the table when my mind is kept busy. In a live game I like to watch the other people, but there's not much to watch online except betting patterns.

BTW - This works much better if you're running Poker Office/Tracker

As an aside, perhaps you should choose a more appropriate tag line/signature until you get this worked out

"He probably has AK I'll putall in anyway I can lose 3 buy ins son of a goddam bitch..........."

Whenever you are tilting watch Tuff Fish and realise that no matter how bad you tilt there is someone worse than you.

I dl a bunch of episodes of Live at the Bike from PokerBay, this has proved a welcome distraction so as to not get overly bored b/w hands.

Four tabling helps too.

I run PO so yeah that's not a problem. Tagline will be edited asap!

I count myself lucky that i'm this hard on myself as $80 isn't that much of a hit to the BR, it's the fact that I played bad that annoys me the most.

This is the only real time that I tilt - when I've totally misplayed a hand. Bad beats and donks just don't bother me anymore, but when I don't follow a read or make a stupid play it's... time.

Thankfully I'm getting better at recognising when I'm tilting and also I tilt by becoming more passive (still not great, but better than bluffing every hand). I've only ever gone on super mad over aggresssive mad monkey tilt once. That was on WPT Online and I've now scribbled the word REMEMBER on a WPT poker chip which now sits under my monitor. It's working so far.

The only way i can stop tilting, is to stop playing. I leave the table im on or get knocked out of the tourney im in and dont play untill the next day when i can come back fresh and play well.
