Hi,
I really like
PokerStars - the GUI is one of the best. There is no doubt that
Pokerstars attracts really good players. If you look at Pokerlistings and check out the 'opposition rating' you'll see that PS (closely followed by UB) is one of the worst. I have played on 0.01/0.02 tables with preflop entries of 30%!!
BUT, You learn to play strong poker at PS - it's where I learnt. So in a way I do recommend it.
However.. there are softer sites with GUI's that are as good. VC/Doyles I find very good - it's fast and you can control stack sizes and change your AV quickly whilst your on a table (Instant change of table image!!- who reads the names?). Table selection is hard enough to prevent soft tables drying up but if you don't need a preflop entry number (you shouldn't go on this alone anyway) it's fine.Trafffic is very good. It has a nice buddy list feature which I use a lot. At the moment I know of one player at 0.25/0.5 who will call me down with king high to the river to the tune of $15..
I'm looking at 'Bodog' at the moment - opposition seems very soft/good traffic and the GUI is very attractive. I'm seeing 55% entry at 0.5/1 on some nights. I think the bonus is CR*P on
bodog. - this seems to be upheld by other ppls views on 2+2.
Gaming Club/Prima is OK - I usually have one 'prime table' open at that site but the software isn't good on dial up.
Party Poker... hmm. I think Alex and myself have similar opinions on the structure of the NL ring games. Basically at the lowest level (.25/.5) the fixed $25 buy-in is a problem. Table selection at PP seems to be quite hard. Because there's a lot of new players there and they are playing at quite a high limit (for a newbie) with a mix of rocks - I find the tables very dry (even on a Thursday, Friday night) - PP has a reputation for having lots of fish, at one stage this may have been true but I think it is less so now. After a few weeks I found I could beat PP .. but not by enough to make it worthwhile (few BB/100). More importantly (because I might be a terrible player).. I didn't track anyone with PokerTracker who was doing any better. I'm prepared to change my game to whatever wins but I need to identify a winning game before I steal it!!
I can't comment on the SnG's or higher limits there.
I must say that I object to Party Poker using child labour to produce their GUI. - It must have been written by a five year old... just my opinion.
