Default continuation bet

ok so say im playing a .15/.30 NL full ring game and i raise in Early position wi AK, get 1 caller and im first to act after the flop, the flop comes down 10 7 5, this is where i lose money, if i make a continuation bet and he calls, i dont know where i am. if i check i then allow him to take control of the pot. suggestions?

this is not a hand thats actually happened, im just wondering what to do in these situations

thanks.

I'm not an expert, but I would bet 2/3 of the pot on the flop and shut it down on the turn/river if I get called (unless I spike A or K on the turn/river).

you need to look at who called you..
Early position plays are player dependent. In its simplest form - will he put down to a CB?.. If he has put you on AK and he has 22 - on a weak flop he will call you.

If hes a hit or fold player... some flops are better to cb than others

If hes drunk.. don't cb...

If you make a heavy early raise - the odds are that you have AK (four times more likely than AA)

I think it depends on what standard you are playing at. If it's small stakes, from my experience a lot of players will call no matter what, so it's better to play a straight a-b game IMHO.

If you're playing against slightly better players it really depends on what type of read you have on your opponents. If it was a tight player i would stick in a biggish bet, if he calls slow down as he probably has a pair. If it's a trickier player i would consider check raising.

From my experience at the low levels where players are extremely weak you don't need to bluff to make a profit.

Bluffs work best when you are against tight players who play a bet(when they hit) or fold strategy(when they miss). When you move up levels the bluff becomes much more important against the trickier players and you may find that you need to delay your contuation bet.

If you go to cardplayer.com look in their articles archives there's some good stuff about when to bluff.

You only begin bluffing after you've caught prem hands and have run over the table a few times...Too many times to count I have caught great hands pushed 10 into a 5 pot and got called by mid pair or TPweakkick...after they scared, bet em off hands...but pick the spots wisely

We are talking about .25/.50 and under right?
