Default early chip lead and results.

I have the end of first days chip stacks from the 2004 WSOPME, plus the ITM finishes, interesting results.

Name*** **********Chips-----Place
MIKE LAING-----------129,525
PAUL KRAUS ----------127,275----80th
CHUCK AGNEW --------107,175----82nd
TUIL TEDDY-----------105,075
DAVIN ANDERSSON ----103,600 - had a blow-up close to the money
TIMOTHY WHITE-------102,325----169th
JEFF STOFF------------93,975
JUHA HELPPI------------86,800-----167th
JONATHAN BROOKS-----86,150------85th
ANDY CRACCHIOLO ----85,350------166th
TOMMY HANG ---------80,450
GREG RAYMER ---------77,400-----1st
RICK TROENDLY--------77,025
LEE BRISTOL-----------74,950
JOHN HENNIGAN -------74,025
BRITTON SNEED--------73,700
BRAD PIERCE -----------72,375----88th
LUCIENNE ROKACH------71,850
MARTY WILSON---------71,125
JOHN MURPHY----------68,925-----13th
BENJI GRIMES----------68,075
MATTHEW HILGER-----67,225-------33rd
ABE MOSSERI---------66,625-------120th
SOK CHENG-----------66,175
JAMES SOUSA---------65,700

Interestingly, David Williams ended day 1 with 15,000 (686th) in chips.
Josh Arieh as in the top 50 - 45th I think.
Dan Harrington was 69th out of the ~1100 that finished day1.
Glenn Hughes was 75th in chips
Al Krux 513th
Matt Dean 49th
Mattias - 646th
Mike McClain - 177th

So, 7 of the top 12 made the money - definitely better than the field.
11 of the top 25. And 6 of the final 9 where in the top 20% in chips at the end of day 1. 5 were in the top 10%.

i read somewhere (pokerpages i think, or may even have been their forum) in the build up to WSOP2004 that the chip leader at the end of day one has never won (or was it not even made the final table of the event). the point of the observation being that some weak/loose/agressive player gets a lot of chips by taking too many risks, and that this kind of player will lose all his chips pretty soon.

does anyone else know about this in any more detail?

is Greg Raymer the 1st to achieve this?
