Default All this time I've been playing limit. Who'dathunkit?

I've just finished reading Sklansky's latest book (No Limit Hold 'Em - Theory and Practice) and it made me realise something.....all this time I've been playing Limit Hold 'Em.

I've read a lot of books in my short, 1 year poker career. At least a dozen of them, a couple of which I've read more than once. A few of those books focussed more on LHE (such as TOP) than they did on NLHE. Now I obviously realised this and took a lot of what was being said with a grain of salt, trying to figure out how the LHE strategies I was learning could be translated into NLHE. It wasn't until I read NLHETP that I realised just how much I was missing.

Take implied odds, for example. Having read all the other books, I knew what they were. I just didn't know how to use them properly. NLETP changed that. The last 50 pages of the book, "Concepts and Weapons" section, was worth the cost of the book ALONE. It contains 59 different concepts and is short and to the point. It presents ideas that may be obvious to some but I can guarantee that even the top PFO'er will gain something from at least 5 to 10 of those concepts.

I think for me, this will be the 1 book that changes my entire game. The 1 book that takes me to the next level. Sure the HOH books were great but they only focussed on tournament strategy. This book focusses on NLHE in it's entirety. Anyone looking for their next poker purchase MUST go buy this book.

I'm about 20 pages into it. I haven't opening it in a while but that will change this afternoon. No classes so woohoo!

I am reading this book VERY slowly. I'm reading the fundamentals section first and even though the sections are only 2-3 pages max I find myself reading one and then wanting to put the book down and just think about what I've just read.

Some of the ideas are completely new to me - like when he advocates giving your opponent reasonable odds to call with his flush draw when you've got 2pair or a set if some of the remaining flush cards also fill up your boat. I'm still not comfortable with this idea, but it's making me think and that is the idea of the book right?

I agree with Mr.McJ and feel that it will really change the way I play. I'm only half way through it, but what I've read so far has been excellent - I'm looking forward to the "Concepts & Weapons" section.
