FreeRoll Vs MTT
how do you guys think the competition is different in a freeroll compared to a multi table tournemant with a lowish (few dollars) buyin.
is it a good way to practise and learn the format or is it compleatly different. as in the way play money ring is nothing like real money ring?
today i placed 2nd in a freeroll with a field of 220. i got a bit of a buzz when i reached the final table and more so when i got to playing heads up. i got heads up with about 125,000 to his 275,000 i played pretty agressive and chipped away at him till we were almost even, i then lost when i thought i was ahead with top pair med kicker on a Jack high board pushed the flop but he was slowplaying QQ.
i would like to occaisionly play a MTT for variety and hope to be able to reach the cash spots to get my money back. do you think i can expect a real money MTT to be anything similar. in this game you bought in with FPP's so they were not 1st time players.
if nothing else i enjoyed the game especially getting to play heads up.

freeroll is full of underage kids that can't buy in to anything else.

LoL. Really? I only play IRL tourney's as I'm sure most now know, but I've only learned by way of playing...but I would have to say that playing differently would be essential to your survival on the MTT. Again, I only play IRL, and not Online, so I would read up on some of the books outlined in the archivesp- If you search properly,Beav, Bonch, Ger, and Kid have all had valuable points, and helped me out greatly!

hi, what i really meant was:
if i want to play some MTT's is it worth playing some FreeRolls as practice and to learn the format. is playing FreeRolls going to help or hinder my chances in the first few MTT's that i play?

I haven't played any freerolls, but I've played a lot of $5, $20 and $30 (and a few $50 and $100) MTTs.
I've done a lot better on the $20 and $30 than the $5 particularly during the first hour and I'm sure it's at least partly due to the standard of play (ie people will take a lot more coinflips on a $5 than higher buyins).
I guess that could be extropolated to freerolls where people are more likely to take calculated risks.

it depends on the site and the prize.
Most of the UB free-rolls are useless if you don't play cash for the most part.
They get a lot of weak players, but they aren't maniacs, a lot of min bettors that let you draw cheaply and will pay you off when you hit.
Doylesroom has some cash, and people play like play money games. Totally nuts and reckless.

so that is like a 5FPP or AP game right? They don't really resemble a cash game.
I play on Doylesroom which is a VC skin. I played a couple of the cheap AP (DR calls them action points) games, they are nuts, but fun. Push any top ten hand hard.
