Wow, an intelligent thread on money management that doesn't involve, "you need 300bb to play that,, yada yada yada" or "as long as you can beat the game you can play, yada yada yada" I love this thread

We all want to move up and be on TV, or high stakes poker, but realistically to do that you will be broke just as often as you are rich. Read Greenstein's book and you'll see how you go from up a couple million to down a couple million in a few months.

The guys on TV, with few exceptions, are compulsive gamblers. They bet on anything and everything. I learned just over 2 years ago all about this. I started playing the bigger games at Foxwoods and you get caught up in the "lifestyle" of others around you.

Now I stick to games where my expectation may be much lower, but it's more consistent and keeps me out of the adrenaline rush of gambling zone. I have no problem makin $20, 30, 40 an hour playing cards. I used to think, "I can make more than this" now I just feel I am lucky to be able to make that kind of money playing cards at all.

When you play high stakes, your adrenaline kicks in with so much riding on it. This may be good for focus on the game, but it kills your ability to step away and assess what's going on in the big picture. Yeah, I probably could make $80 or $100 an hour playing cards but I'm not ready for it yet, I've learned that. I'm not ready to handle the losses and I'm not ready to handle the wins. I don't want to be rolling in dough or broke, I'd rather be consistent right now.
