showing bluffs can put people on tilt or make them play badly. So sometimes I think it's a good idea.

I think like anything else in poker, it depends. If you're at a table online where people are coming and going a lot, then no reason to bother showing anything. Sometimes thought you'll hit those tables where almost everyone stays on for as long as you do and you might have been on a table for 2 hours. Depending on the players and the game I don't think it would hurt to maybe show a hand or 2 for image purposes. Whether or not people are paying attention is another story but if you have an instance like that at least one or 2 players are probably paying some attention to what's going on.

Or you might run into the same player fairly often on a site, that you have 1K+ hands on in PT. That person might also recognize you and/or have you in his PT also, so you basically know who each other tends to play. In instances like that I think it might not be a bad idea if you guys mix it up once in a while in hands to do things to keep him guessing a little (i.e. showing some and not others occasionally).

Certain people on here have also played with each other at tables also, and I think like to keep each other guessing from time to time but also not be a dick either. So maybe once in a while keep each other on their toes a little bit there as well, again not to be a complete ass, just enough to keep the other guy guessing a little .

I agree with Mr Mcj about creating the TAG image cos when you hit a run of cards and keep raising, betting, raising etc. people can get restless and occasionally showing them a good hand will put their mind at ease somewhat and when you pick up 72 and smell weakness there's a good chance you'll be able to steal the pot based on your current image.

On the topic of giving away information, that is inevitable but if you mix up the play with the hands you show (ie. play the subsequent top 2 pair differently from last time when you showed it). Obviously i wouldn't overdo the showing cos they will pick up too much information but on occasion it can be quite a profitable play.

On the flipside, showing a bluff (which by the way i VERY rarely do) has its advantages. If there is a player at your table you reckon is a bit volatile, a bit of a loose cannon, you can get them on tilt bigtime. it'll hurt their ego and they'll come back at you, trying to do the same to you as what you did to them and very often you'll have the chance to break them.

I think both in moderation can be very useful but definitely don't overdo it, find the right balance to manipulate your table image.

and breathe....
