Default More American law crap

I guess some of you got this:

Please see below the contents of an email which has been sent to all of Eurobet's US customers:

<<Please be advised that in the light of recent actions by US regulators, Eurobet has regretfully taken the decision to cease taking any business through its websites from U.S. residents with immediate effect. U.S. residents will no longer be able to transact with our websites and all accounts held by U.S. residents have now been closed.

We are contacting you because we believe that, based on the personal details you have provided us, you are a US resident and therefore affected by this decision.

Where we already have your payment details we will refund any outstanding balance using that method within 7 days from today. If we do not have the necessary details please contact us on +44 1483 773 224 or via email at uscustomerservice@eurobet.com to confirm how you wish any existing balances on your account should be repaid including the appropriate financial details. Bodog I am worried about. I'm about to out my 2k there - too risky..

A voice of reason is emerging

Frankly I think this is getting pretty crappy.

I'm interested in Phyos, Tylers thoughts -probably the worst effected. It seems I'll be OK.

Of course if you're American...

Again the case is made for /Connie Gowan, Annie Duke to marry me. Formally it was only a major tax incentive. Now they might be thrown in prison if they don't....

Pretty weak-tight for them to do this considering it's still too early to know if anything will even come of the regulations. What makes matters even worse is if other rooms follow suit there won't be a need to even pass a law about it. The poker rooms will automatically put it into effect regardless.

it is already illegal to accept "wagers" from US residents. See the "betonsports" article.

this is why one of the big brit sites I cant remember right now has never taken us accounts, ladbrokes I think.

Had to comment on this.Your right Ladbrokes,Parbet,Expekt and some others have the US player restriction in place already but its not looking good guys.Saw the Eurobet thing and did some searching at a few places and it seems Poker Champs has done the same. They are closing the accounts of all US players.

Pok is right, whether the bill passes or not this is bad if the rooms start running scared and closing off their sites to US players.Thats two now just today. How many others will follow suit.Very disturbing news.Hopefully this will not catch fire with many rooms and networks.

OK, so they all end up shutting us out of business. No more poker for Americans. What about a new business model? For B&M locations its only illegal if the house gets a piece of the action. No rake, no problem. Any shot that sites begin to show up that don't take a piece of the action, and simply make money through advertising or membership fees?

Come on Kid.......your a businessman.......open up shop and lets see if they seek extradition from Canada.

In all seriousness this is getting absolutely ridiculous.

Online Gaming's been illegal, but the methods of enforcing these laws haven't been approved until now with the credit cards and using ISP's help. European tobacco companies did this (3 Castle, Drum, Botschafter) to protest the rising US tobacco taxes and all that did was sell more Gauloises, so the Frenchmen got the last laugh.

This is gonna happen with some companies having high Euro-bases and the ones that stick will reap the benefits. I still doubt that a lot of ISP's will cooperate.

Angry EuroBet Blocks Americans From Playing

Has anybody heard anything about EuroBet not allowing Americans to play on their site? I think this is due to the American anti poker legislation going through right now. I was in a bit of a crunch because I was trying the get into the Ongame Classic. After looking into it I found out about a new site called Tower Gaming and made my way to the Classic through them. I’m wondering if this is the beginning of a new trend, or if EuroBet is going too far. Are any other poker or casino sites not allowing Americans to play?

As a non-american I have a bit less concern regarding this ban, however the games and alot of the heavy american sites (Paradise, Stars, Party, Bodog, UB) will all see massive losses in traffic and they may downgrade or go under. Thus effecting game selection for me. There are actual potential benefits to me directly if the ban comes into effect, though I am certainly not hoping that it happens.

Technically online-gambling is already illegal in the US and alot of banks and credit companies block their credit cards from being used on gambling sites. I know when I started all my credit cards were blocked at both neteller and at Stars, so I had to actually use EFTs from my bank account to get rolling. If the government forces banks to block Neteller transfers, then most of the money is no longer going to be rolling into the sties. The other major way is to block ISPs, which will be very hard to get around.

I think that this trend is going to continue for a while, with sites stopping more and more american customers. I think this is going to make the sites look good to the US government if and when they decide to legalize and tax it, making it easier for them to get a permit to do so.

I think the bigger sites such as stars and party will be less affected but this is really going to hit the smaller sites whos' userbase will be more affected.
