how much free space is on the drive? Also, it read/write speed may be slow and can't keep up with the required data transfer. not a HD expert though.

1GB of available space. And like I said, it was working fine for a month and then just suddenly started causing this problem so I couldn't see it being something to do with the read/write speed.

a gig is plenty of free space, write to stars support.
