I open-raise or call small in any position except UTG or UTG+1. If the table's loose and passive, I'll limp. If not, I'll open for 3.5-4bbs. It sounds like you're committing yourself to the pot with AQ. Just like AK, it's Ace high. If you're mesmorized by 2 unpaired cards, be more cautious. Getting paid off is the least of your worries here. Catch and pounce in early positions.

Everything but the first sentence in my original post. This is a drawing, so the flop, turn, and river are played street by street. After the flop, you don't have AQ, you have AQXXX.

Coincidentally, this hand occurred while I was typing a reply. Picture my hand as AQ and replace the K on the flop with a Queen.

It really does depend and I play AQ differently in so many different spots against different people. I'll throw an isolation raise against a tight limperer with anything in poisition if I'm playing. But there's been a good amount of discussion on PF raises in these games and what it costs to isolate against 3 or 4 four limpers isn't worth it because of the hands that are gonna call that raise.

In these games where money all but directly transferred into an opponent's account, I have trouble finding a reason to push a lot of chips in the pot with Ace hi only seeing 28.6% of your hand.

Smile AQ

I call with AQ because I'd question calling a raise with them. If they're suited, I'll call a raise with them and take a flop. If they're not suited and I'm out of position, I won't call a raise. By out of position I mean that I'm in a middle position and a man in an early position came in raising. I'll pass these hand in that spot.

So the general consensus is call AQ unsuited in early positions and raise in later? Shouldn t it be strong enough to raise from any positions, by not raising aren't you giving up some of your equity to the ace rag donkeys?
