I think this is a fair statement. Probably easier to play once the math is second nature and you don't have to do the calculations each time. But, personally, I think NLHE is a hell of a lot more fun.

I read that no limit has less variance and can produce greater gains, giving you more tools with which to exploit poorer players.
What are your thought on the matter?

Without reading anything else here..... You should probably try playing before you decide to specialize.

meh, going limit to nl i think is the best because it teaches you about gameplay and where hands stand etc without big bets in fron of you --easier i'd say
but fuck it just learn nl. you can be 20/40 lhe pro right now and still not make as much $$$/hr as a 2/4 nl player and 20/40 is waaaayy harder than 2/4 nl

bboy plays loose so thats a good thing for him.
imo the crop is rising to the top. new players will be joining all games lim, nl pl,... overtime, the crapy players will eventually lose money and the good players will stick around. the ratio will change. games will get tougher.

yeah thanks alot
i just dont see how in no limit you can get a good read on someone online from just a few hands
and say your playing a 10 handed game how in hell do you see and get a good idea of how they all play and use that to your advantage...it seems rock
Cheers

I like to describe limit as:
"pushing marginal edges aggressively over thousands of repetitions"
This concept and the concept of value betting (which really is included by the quote as well) is the key to limit poker.
This concept is why starting hand selection / patience is so important in limit, and not so important in NL.
I like both games but am attracted to the challenge of trying to find how marginal of an edge I can push in limit on all streets, actually find the game much more intelllectually challenging. But I'm wierd.

I agree to an extent. Whatever game is right for you is right for you. Everyone's telling you what's best for them and if they think they're poker gods, they'll tell you a game that they feel is beneath them because they can't play it.
No limit is a very patient game as limit is because hold 'em is a patient game at any micro-LL (up to $1kNL and 10/20 limit). I agree and disagree with Steve on the tilt control. When you go on tilt in limit, you'll need a lot of hands to make up for it. In NL, you can make up for the tilt in one hand.
Whichever game you think you know better, play it. I'd say to learn and play both and the microlimits and make your own decision. You never know. I kick ass at PLO and Stud8, but I'm an average Stud and horrible PLO8 player, but I'm a good O8 limit player. Sorry to say it, but you gotta learn the hard way if you suck at a game.
