Default The "LAG" Playing Style

Almost all articles or videos I see made by winning online players advocate playing the LAG style with a full buy in at the table.

Now, I guess if I am winning I shouldn't change things but every now and then I decide to give it a go.

Maybe I think it's cool to play a LAG style, maybe I think if I could play a LAG game which returned the same profit I would make more in bonuses and rakeback. Maybe I just fancy a change - I don't know.

This is the typical sort of thing that then happens. I sit down in a $200NL game. I am on the button with and there are 2 limps. OK - Time to punish the limpers and I have position, Ill raise to 4bb. 1 player calls.

Flop is:

Opponent checks, I think well I could have raised with A and bet. He calls

Turn is a blank
opponent checks, I bet, opponent calls.

River another blank, check - check. He has JT - a pretty weak second pair.
I think why play LAG, if I had any ace he would have played that the same and I would have won the pot. I think I'll just wait til i have a hand to raise next time.

Anybody here play a succesful LAG game in cash games?

you have to be able to adjust your game. If you're up against a a table of LAGS then tight passive is very profitable.

as the tables tighten then loosen up late preflop and make more use of CB's with a view to blind stealing.

If you play LAG against a load of LAGs you will simply shuffle money around the table..

On the hand above I would have hit a tight agg player with 1/2 pot on the turn.

It isn't video poker, so Bob's right. Your style adjust to the table and the people involved in those pots. Daniel Negreanu wrote an article that's on his site, Full Contact Poker, called "Beating up on Weak Players." I don't remember if it was in Card Player but this will help you. There's no one way to play to be a winner. I'd say that if you're playing too weak against weak players, get more aggressive. But you don't wanna be too aggressive with aggressive players until you have a hand. They'll make it more expensive than you want it to be.

basically, i am a TAG(who knew huh?)

basically, i will play at a table and play tag for a while. at first i will appear agressive, but then people will notice i dont play many hands. once people start catching on that i only raise with good hands, THEN i will consider switching to a lag style and pick up alot of pots. if people dont catch on that they pay me off every hand i play, fine, then i dont have to play lag at all.

basically, when i feel it will work, ill switch to lag for a while and see if i can score some pots. worst case scenario is i loosen up my table image and show im capable of making a play.

this morning i got caught check raising some guy all in on the flop with a flush draw. of course i hit my flush cause thats how i roll, but i knew now that the players saw i have the capability to bluff for all my chips they are more likley to pay me off.

its all feel, basically.

I've done some experimenting with LAG style recently. The biggest assest (that i've found) isnt nessicarily stealing alot of pots, its getting paid on your huge hands. I steal enough pots to break even when someone decides to play back at you when your full of air and you havta let it go. But I find after the table realises how I'm playing they start calling me down with middle pair and shit.

Also ppl start to play TPTK very aggressivly against me, which is great when you make two pair or bettter. I dunno, I guess its the same idea as TAG was saying but reversed. I get the table pissed at me and ready to play back with marginal holdings, then I tighen up and clean em out.

I forgot the exact number. I'll thumb through this pile of poker books on my altar and find it for you.
