I'm going to kind of agree with TRD here, some people can handle things better than others when it comes to to how situations turn out. Some people who are naturally short fused would probably tilt a little easier that a more patient person.....Or at least people who have an understanding of how they deal with things going wrong.

Although I don't golf (I already have an aggrevating sport) which is archery. Which I shoot competitively in 6 months out of the year. But the same principle applies to his golf analogy, just like hitting a golf ball. As soon as you make a shot that arrow is gone and there's nothing you can do to affect it's outcome. (Ironically there were quite a few quotes in the "Zen" book which came from archey :good: ).

Anyways the basic principle remains, you can't let something that just happened carry over into the next shot, or hand, or swing, etc. I've seen people throw euipment, break equipment and so on. People like that are probably not going to catch a beat and go "meh, it happens...that's poker"

One thing i know for sure; if the player's style makes you feel uncomfortable (ie, i hope i get dealt a good hand so i can bust him) then you should not play w/ that person.

You want to be the person who makes everybody react to. If you can dicatate, you will be very successful. This is my goal in poker. To become the player that screws you.

I used to shoot competitively too... Nothing like going on tilt when you have a weapon in your hand.... Especially when the 10 ring may as well be the size of a pinhead....

I think generally your personality chooses your style.

For me I am probably too tight at times ... but with reading and experience (and learning from this site when to push the small edges) I am learning when to use tight aggression and loose aggression and this is helping my game.

As stated before I play mainly 5, 10 and 20Man NLHE tournies. In these games I tend to adapt to the players and have played loose aggressive on certain tables and won. But I am definitely improving and definitely know I couldn't just play loose aggressive day in day out.

I think learning to go beyond the "one style" your personality is fit for is how we take our games to the next level. You should learn to play and appreciate all styles, so that you can play against them and the types of players that implement them.

Phsych of Poker is a good start here. . . .

I also think the longer you play, the less likely you are to go on tilt over 1 hand, but perhaps the more likely you are to tilt over an extended period of dead cards . . . . simply because you're paying attention to the long run instead of the short run.

But I've noticed that even that doesn't affect me so much any more . . . but I still go on TILT on occasion (see my WSOP hand 5,6,7)!!

Yeah, there may have been a few small rodents, maybe a bird or 5 that happened to catch a *stray* arrow.... Good tilt relief... (sorry if that offends any non-hunters)
