I started playing recreationally at foxwoods and in local games, Read some stuff about it online, and started squirrelling away some cash. Before I knew it I had around 10K from playing 2/4, 4/8, and a smattering of 5/10 along with destroying the local barroom games (this was well before the explosion).
Then I deposited 300 into party poker and have never redeposited online again.
I often play above my bankroll, but not to the point it cripples me, so I have setbacks occasionally. numerous times I have lost half my roll in a week, then I simply steppped down a level or 2. I don't do this too much now as my responilivities have increased (Ali G reference there )
I've had a lot of highs and lows the last few years of playing poker, weeks where I lived on peanut butter and oatmeal and weeks where I ate out every night.
At my peak, before buying a house, I had a bankroll and savings of about 100K. Now I maintain a bankroll of about 25K with about 2-5K online at anytime, the rest is for live games and any emergencies that might occur.
Take that for what its worth though, since apparantly I suck at poker

I have 3 BR : 2 online (Pokerstars, Partypoker) and my live games BR.
Pokerstars is my main BR. I started with $50 playing 0.02/0.05 NL ring game and $3 Turbo SnG. I wasnt satisfied with that so I actually added 100 $ to my bankroll and started to play slightly higher stakes.
Im playing $4 180 players SnG pretty often hoping to finish first and win 216 $. This kind of SnG pay me fairly well. What really pay on the other hand is those $50 heads up I do. My discipline is if I ever lose 3 HU in a row I will simply change my habit and do more MTT. Im now at... i dont have exact number... around $580.
My PartyPoker was simply a bonus whoring, started with 100 $ and now im like at $160 but i never really use it.
My recreational bankroll is more about a budget considering I dont spend 1 $ from my job salary to play poker except for the original $100 i prepared for live game. I only play home games, usually $20 STT with buddies or MTT with a little municipal league of poker or $5 Heads up with my buddy. Im now at $250 and once I reach 1500 or so I will spend it to go to Atlantic City !!

I'm now several hundreds bucks down at least.
However I'm starting to get better at the lowest-stakes NL games, I hope to build up a bankroll of a few hundreds $ or so, soon.

i started out 2 years ago when i was like 15. back when the 03 wsop was on espn and stuff.
started playing with friends for $5 a game. i would say about.... 30-40 kids in my graduating class played, more in the lower classes. i lost proly $100 after about a year, i was really weak tight and bad. prolly one of the worst players. so i started reading poker books. ive probably spent $200 on poker books and they have been well worth it. because the 30-40 people that used to kick my ass have mostly quit. im much better of a player than any regular in the home games. now we play for about $50.
according to my spreadsheet i had won about $4000 from home games alone.
then i started going to the casino and playing online. i really started working on my game. thought i could make something of poker. started doing fantastic online, but spent lots of the money on a car and some other things. now ive locked down though, im working up, moving up stakes.
my roll totals at like 10k right now. more if i hadnt bought stupid shit i didnt need.
right now im making waaaay more than i would working. if i can continue making more than i could working, this is what im going to do for a long time.
oh forgot to mention. unlike my poker friend im going to college, however, the college im going to is about a 2 minutes drive from a casino. so. yeah.

Going to CMU? i don't think i could study if i went there lol
I started out playing with friends and getting my ass kicked but it was more something fun to do at the time then anything and then i couldnt get enough poker and started playing play money a lot on party, figured since i could cash in the play i can make a killing playing for real money, depo 50 went up and down for a while didn't really know what i was doing. i lost it but it took a while and was fun playing so depo 50 more up and down for a while then i lost it. decided to buy a few books learned a ton from the books depo again and start making money. overall i am up but i cash out way to much and i am just starting to concentrate on building a bankroll rather then making 50 and cashing it out. bankroll is around $350 right now bout to cash out from PS so i can do the PP bonus overall im up around 2k from poker

I started playing 25PL on party poker. Had no idea what I was doing, started with 150$ was down to my last 28$, 25 of it at the table when I got all in on the river with a flush vs AA that was slow playing and a straight. After that I would deposit make 50 or so over my deposit, withdraw, lose my winnings, and repeat.
I moved to SnGs when party doubled the blinds at NL and PL games (they have since reversed that). I read Play Poker Like the Pros and Championship NL and PL Holdem, I developed a SnG game from those. I have been self sustaining ever since.
Most of my original roll came from SnGs. After about 6 months of 3-6 SnGs a day I got burnt out on them and started playing PLO, O8b, S8b and MTTs. I didn't start hitting bonuses until the last year or so.
My bank is around 2800. I took out 400 at Christmas last year for some gifts for my wife.

As of right now I've probably deposited over $300 in the last year and have none of it left. Most of it though has been like $20 deposits at pokerroom and $25 deposits and UB and then wondering why in the world I lose that money . I make donk ass moves when I know I shouldn't and then after I win a couple $5's I usually try a $10 or a $20 and I get sent right back down to my initial depo. and then it just goes downhill from there.
I did have this one unbelievable run where I turned $10 into $410 over the course 3 days (won a couple 5's, decided to do 5 max $20's, won 1 or 2, entered a $30 MTT and cashed for $208) but then the variance hit and lost it down to about $120 where I cashed.
So as of right now, I have NO bankroll. I'm taking a month off, AT LEAST, to finish up the two books I'm reading now and work on my discipline (play poker here I come ) and come back with a $100-$125 deposit and hope to never have to deposit again.
