I have always wondered WHY people buy fake money... but they do.
The going rate I think is about 1$ per 100k play chips.
My cousin used to sell his play chips for money, so I know its true. That being said make sure you are dealing with a reputable site when trading, there are alot guys that will try to scam you for your play chips (Kind of find it funny that people would even bother).

Yeah its true, my friend also sold his chips
11$ per million of play chips.
At first I really didnt understand. "What a bunch of retard" I thought.
but then I realized that if he can buy it he can as well sell it.
If he think its easier to beat play money and can get profit re-selling them after.. I think its not too bad.

When you sign up, they will give you some play money chips (2/5k?). Play is sooooooo bad at play money ring games that (assuming you are decent), you should be able to build this up fast. I started this way a while back and turned my initial chips into 20k (sitting with 2k at a time) in a week. And then I turned my 20k into 500k in another week in the play money SnGs. You want to build your "play money bankroll" high enough to get into 10k SnGs or better if you want some semblance of normal poker for practice.

You start with 1K of Play chips and you can re-buy it 3 times per hour
you play 5/10 NL ring game, push decent hand and you will get 2-3 callers (the level of play is awful)
once you get like 10K you do 100/200 and beat the 99% of fish and then you can go for 50K STT or MTT SnG and do a lot of chips easily. Then if you can sell them to another guy who want to do like you then here you go and do profit
Important note : There is no Rake

after i read the jesus thing i had my money on a different site and was going to try and build a bankroll from $0 on PS when i was playing the playing money SNG they actually seem to be a lot tighter then a real money one for $5 it was kinda annoying because i didn't want to sit there for 2 hours to win play money

The reselling the chips idea is a good one, but for two reasons: 1) the chips have no value, so the end buyer has no reason to buy the chips. 2) The end buyer gets screwed because there are no more buyers offerings a higher rate.
My theory is that Stars subsidises the end buyers. They want players to create real cash accounts and to reload those accounts. The majority of play money players will never do this, unless they are given free money and are bitten by the bug. So, through backdoor channels (Cause it just doesn't make sense to have that publicly known), stars Offers to buy back large sums of chips for $X. The brokers then buy them at a lower rate to make a profit. What stars loses in sales is easily made up in rake on the tables. They at least break in even in this aspect, but you probably get 1 out of 1000 play chip players that do this will eventually move up to bigger stakes, and therefore cover the losses of all th other players through the rake.

Very interesting Marm. I never thought about the fact PS might actually be subsidizing the end buyers, but its does make logical sence.
