Default I need a math geek for a question....

Hi guys, this is probably easy but for some reason I don't know how to do it easily.

What are the odds of me playing 9 hours of live poker ($4-8 limit) at about 35 hands/hr and not getting dealt JJ QQ KK or AA once?

Yes, this actually happened today and it sucked, but that's not really the point. So it's not a bitch post(although I'll point out I still won $70 :rockpoker ) . My neighbor at the table and I were trying to figure it out and we couldn't come up with the method to figure this out without a pen or calculator. There must be an easier way. Thanks in advance.

Well let see that 9 hours at 35h/hr for a total of 315 hands. Chances of you being dealt JJ+ are (16/52)(3/51) =(.308)(059)= 1.8%. So then its .982 ^ 315 = .0032 or 0.32%

IN fact you should have had one of those pairs at least 5 times.

Thanks, Marm. I really must have forgot all that math in college because I really was trying to do that a completely stupid way.

I've been trying to figure out how to do that by hand, and without an idiot savant or a bunch of chinese slaves, I couldn't figure out a way.

Marm,
Do you have Weighing the Odds in Hole'em poker by King Yao? It sounds like an irritating book by the title, but it is REALLY good. Really tied up all the math I need to know and taught some concepts to me via concrete math that were helpful. I need to read it again to fully digest it but you might want to pick it up. I think it was pretty cheap ~$16 or so.

Cool... and it's Hole'em not Hold'em? I only ask (in seriousness) cause the author is King Yao.

I'm not sure I get that.....I'm a little slow today....perhaps explaining my inability to type "Hold'em".

It's a limit book I bought by accident. Still have yet to read most of it, but there are some very interesting odds tables in the appendices.
