Default Bored at low NL tables

I started playing Limit Holdem micro tables over a year ago, built up to over $500 of original BR, then went on a bat beat spell and dropped down to $300. I'm now playing NL .10/.20 and .25/.50 and I'm winning, but I'm in a rut. Winning $5 - $20 is fun, but I wanna play with the big boys.
Anyone else go thru this? I'm tempted to pull $500 out of my personal funds and try my hand at $1/$2 NL Holdem.
Any thoughts?

Personally I don't think $500 is enough to play 1/2 NL unless you are planning to add more to it if necessary. You've already seen that a downswing of a few hundred is possible at the lower limits, it'll only be magnified more at the higer limits.

Yea, I know. I would have to put my remaining $350 with it if I decided to play $1/$2 NL, but I'm too much of a chicken. Has anyone started at micro tables and decided to dump some more money to speed up the BR required for the higher limits?

850 is not enough, 1000 is not enough 2000 is not enough.

^ Beav has a point, besides the actual BR requirement you need to consider the "emotional bankroll" aspect of it that Steve-O has mentioned before. I don't know if you've read the FAQ section in the newbies section but there's some good advice about BR management and moving up in there.

Just play .50/1 NL Hold 'Em. The Bankroll requirements are designed for winning players who want a bankroll which is self sustainable and large enough to compensate for horrendous runs of cards.

If you are enjoying your poker and have your own personal money to play with. Why not just buy in to some .50/1 or 1/2 tables with maybe 40BB, instead of may buy in and see what happens. This will soon grow if you hit cards.

I usually buy in with $50 into .50/$1 NL tables and it is quite common for me to walk away with $300.

When I first started playing a few months ago, I took my initial $50 deposit and quickly turned it into $600. I then started to feel the boredom of grinding out the lower stakes and decided to take my HUUUGE bankroll and my AWESOME skills up to the $1 tables with the hopes of making it rich. After doing ok on the first day, I managed to lose over $300 on the second day. And then I was so upset and frustrated that I managed to donk off the rest of my BR on the third day.

As rough as it was, it was definitely a good lesson for me. I've since learned proper BR management as well as the benefits of being properly rolled. I love playing the lower limits with a huge BR because it makes the game more fun. Before I used to be worried about every losing session I had. If I lost my whole buy-in to some bad beat, I would be steaming all day. Now I can just shrug it off knowing that it didn't really hurt me at all.

I guess it depends on the person. I find I play better when I am under rolled. I usually play .50/$1 NL and buy in with $50. If I have over $1,000 on a site I find I don't play optimally and so will withdraw anything over $500 from that site.

This doesn't mean I am not properly rolled including my cash on other sites and Neteller. I just find that on individual sites I play better when each decision I make has a impact on my balance within that site.

WotaWaster - Can I ask what site you're clearing $250 on a .5/1 table?

id suggest taking away a % of your earnings and placing it in a high risk side BR. so if you make 5$ a day, put 2.50 into side, then save it for taking stabs @ games that are too high to play normally.

steve o once suggested this.
