Default A gem from a poker newbie

Some background: A little while ago, one of our friends invited us to a poker tournament. My husband turns to me and asks, "So how do blinds work?"

Instead of trying to answer all the basic questions, I just logged onto Party and sat him down at the play money tables so he could practice. Since then, he's continued playing with my play chips at Party, and tonight he played in a SnG while I was playing at another site for real money.

This priceless bit of conversation occurred after someone at my table won a hand with quads and I commented on it to him.

Him: What beats quads?
Me: A straight flush.
Him: I had one of those!
Me: What, just now? How high was it?
Him: It was, I think it was a royal. That's ace high, right? With the little clover things!
Me: You mean clubs?
Him: Yeah, those!

(Just saw Irexes' thread on Mrs. Irexes getting a royal too. Good day for spouses!)

I remember when I used to call them clovers. I couldnt remember which one was the club and which one was the spade...Finally I realized why they call it a spade...

I think we should get Mrs Irexes and Mr Yvraine together as a kind of supernewbiesharkteam.

Congrats on the royals! Wish I could get one!lol

A buddy of mine signed up under my affilate program at Party last summer and I was on the phone with him while he signed up and giving him some pointers. He was already a poker player but an online poker newb. He signed up for a $5 S&G and I logged onto his table as an observer to see how he did. We were still on the phone and he got into a hand and told me he was on a nut flush draw. Then he said, "wait....I've got a royal flush gutshot draw!" The river hits and BAM it's the Jack of clubs giving him the royal. I was absolutly speechless! Even more so when another player in the hand shoved all in.lol The table went nuts when he called and turned over a royal flush. I sat there in shock thinking that this guy just hit a royal after playing on line for less than 10 minutes.
