Default Caesars CEO thinks THIS YEAR for law allowing U.S. online poker

Who knows--we may get it back sooner than we think. Caesars Entertainment CEO Gary Loveman thinks that federal legislation will be passed THIS YEAR. Note that Caesars owns not only a casino empire across America, they also own the WSOP.

Here's the article where Loveman's quote is:

Would online casinos which have been accepting online players during the enforcement of UIGEA qualify for a license or only brand new sites?

That's a good question. Since the fed. bill shaping up to be sponsored by Rep. Joe Barton is still unfinished (reports say it will be done in the summer sometime) it is unclear how sites still in U.S. will be treated.

It is pretty clear a bill will have to disallow the indicted sites (Stars, Tilt, AP/UB, DoylesRoom) from applying for licenses to stand a chance of passing.

However, sites still serving U.S. market like Carbon, PokerView, etc. are in a grey area since they've not been indicted. They may escape blacklisting, or they may get lumped into the category of "rogue" websites and be blocked from licenses. This might be done to present a cleaner bill that will be subject to less criticism than if they are left able to obtain licenses.

It probably comes down to what strategy will ensure the best chance of passage and then politics will take over. At that point it is likely that the best route to passage will be the one that helps American-based businesses (like the U.S. based casino industry--who are obviously ramping up their lobbying as they smell opportunity) the most while offering maximum tax revenue upside for a deficit-stricken U.S. government.
