I'm pretty sure they're completely allowed. All they do is tell you the odds, and some even give you the suggested move. But it won't make you win more if you don't know how to play properly in the first place. By the time winning players are consistently winning, they already know, by heart, most of the important odds and everything that a calculator will tell you. They're nice for learning standard odds, but not worth paying money for in my opinion. You can just search google and find all the odds you need to remember, and just keep referring to them as you play. Eventually you will know them like the back of your hand.

I dont think they're illegal, why would they be? Best bet, ask the hosting site.

These programs are against most sites T&C. Directly from FTP website

    1. Programs that provide specific recommendations or assistance for betting decisions during live play:

Programs that suggest betting actions (i.e. fold, call or raise) in current situations and software that provides assistance in making this type of decision cannot be used during play. For example, poker calculators that automatically extract the current situation from a live game and compute hand probabilities and odds are not permitted.

Players must make all betting decisions on their own and without assistance of any type.

    Specific examples include:

    Online Holdem Inspector
    Poker Calculator Pro
    SNG Endgame Tools (SNGEGT)
    Short Stacking Strategy (SSS) Calculator
    SAGE Calculator
    Poker Hound
any custom-built program in this category
